The permanent commitment of husband and wife in marriage is a lot more than just a sexual bonding. God said that it was not good for man to be alone so he created a woman to be a help mete for him. The phrase help mete indicates that she was created to suit his needs, to match him.

They are a team through life, to help each other in complimentary ways for neither is the man without the woman, nor the woman without the man in the Lord. Neither of us can reach exaltation without the other. Yes, our sexual union is exclusive to each other but even that involves more than just procreation.

It is an intimate expression of our love and commitment to each other and to none else. Thus, after the child bearing years are gone, we continue to enjoy sex with each other as we express our love and mutually exclusive commitment to each other.
