Because they have not learned to say "No, thank you" and shut the door. It's an awful job, for which you must have a thick skin and realize that people who behave that way aren't fit for decent society anyway. There are a shocking number of them, which I always think is the biggest surprise.
Keep your chin up.
From the way you worded your question, I get the impression that you are not the most polite and respectful person out there either. I pay for my apartment. I expect to have privacy.
I do not answer the door or my intercom unless it is someone I know or someone I am expecting. The same goes with the phone. It is there for my use.
I do not pay for it to get sales calls. If I do not know the person calling, I don't answer it. They can leave a voicemail and then it is my choice if I wish to call them back.
If I am shopping in the mall and someone come up to me trying to sell something. I first say "no thank you". The second time they ask I give a firm "not interested".
If they persist, a good loud "get the f*ck away from me" usually works. I am not not rude unless prevoked. If you are making good money with short working hours you have to accept that people not wanting to deal with you is part of the job.
If you push them, expect to be pushed back. People value their home life. They do not like hard sells that intrude upon their personal time.
They do not like to pressured and lied to. Bending the truth is telling a lie. Have some respect for them and you just may get some respect back.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
