Gerry: "The Greek word rendered “cross” in many modern Bible versions (“torture stake” in NW) is stau·ros?. In classical Greek, this word meant merely an upright stake, or pale." JW's keep repeating the same nonsense, but don't seem to understand that the bible was NOT written in classical Greek.
Classical Greek was the form of Greek spoken between 1000 and 330 B.C. The bible was written in Koine Greek. In Koine Greek stau·ros means cross. Even their own literature admits that ..."Later it also came to be used for an execution stake having a crosspiece." "The Imperial Bible-Dictionary acknowledges this, saying: “The Greek word for cross, stau·ros?
, properly signified a stake, an upright pole, or piece of paling, on which anything might be hung, or which might be used in impaling fencing in a piece of ground. . .
. Even amongst the Romans the crux (from which our cross is derived) appears to have been originally an upright pole.”—Edited by P. Fairbairn (London, 1874), Vol.
I, p. 376." In quoting from the Imperial Bible-Dictionary, the Witnesses omit the following with the use of ellipses : "But a modification was introduced as the dominion and usages of Rome extended themselves through Greek-speaking countries."
In addition, "pole" is not the end of the sentence quoted. It is followed by a comma, and continues, "and this always remained the more prominent part. But from the time that it began to be recognized as an instrument of punishment, a transverse piece of wood was commonly added; not, however, always even then."
After identifying three forms of crosses, the entry continues, "There can be no doubt, however, that the latter sort (extending their arms on a patibulum) was the more common, and that about the period of the gospel age crucifixion was usually accomplished by suspending the criminal on a cross piece of wood." The Imperial Dictionary shows quite the opposite of what the Witnesses attempt to prove. Rather than supporting that crucifixion did not come until after Jesus death, it specifically states that crosses were the prominent form of execution in Jesus day.
This is a good example of the Jehovah's Witness dishonesty in omitting words that would change the quote to mean the opposite of what they are claiming.
Well, we say not EVERYONE will go to heaven. Only 144,000 will go to heaven and as much as we want our dead loved ones to be in a happy afterlife the truth is that once they are dead (Ecclesiastes 9:5) "For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten." I've never heard anything about, "the Earth can hold 156,000,000 people if managed right" that must be something you read online.
XD And Jesus was put on a torture stake not a cross.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
