My dog is almost 2 years old, has been crate trained and recently started pooping in her crate more often. What to do? She has only ever pooped in her crate when we left her in for too long.

She has about 1/2 hr-1hr out of the crate in the morning, but most days we are gone anywhere from 6-8 hours before returning to let her out. After that she is out for the rest of the evening. At first we thought it was seperation anxiety, so we moved her crate to our bedroom and we play music and cover it when we leave.

That worked for awhile, but she has started going at least once a week. She is crated most nights too, and never poops then. It is only when we are at work.

We have had her since she was 5 months old, and has been trained this way since then. Any suggestions? Asked by kwagner.

It may be that she needs a new feeding program - here are some ideas to help Sometimes if the dog or even pup is being fed a food with too much " fillers " they can have troubles with pooping in the crate. So, a few changes in her food and feeding times may help. I am going to suggest a new food to add to the one you are currently feeding.

1 Eight hours is too long for a dog to be in a crate during the day. That's the problem. I wouldn't want to hold it for eight hours, either.

I would certainly hate to have to spend the entire day in a small crate.

2 I agree with AutumnWind. Dogs usually don't poop where they sleep. Your dog is not happy.

3 If it is not a behavioral issue it is likely a biological one. One question though, have you changed your dogs food or feeding pattern lately? If so then it may have something to do with it.

Otherwise, can you get her out more during the day? Or, adjust the feeding schedule so she has small meals in the morning and a larger one at night? .

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
