My dog just started pooping in his crate. It doesn't matter if he's in there 30 min or 5 hours. What's up?

The cage is not to big, because I know that can be a problem. My other dog is in a cage not 2 feet away from the first dog, so I know he's not lonely. They both have toys, kongs stuffed with treats, and a radio.

They get fed at night, and he'll still poop after his meal, plus another 2-3 times depending on the length of time in the cage. He also spreads it around and eats it and gets covered it his poop. Both dogs are Greyhound rescues.

The problem dog is 3 years old. I'm at my wits end trying to figure this out.. please help! (oh, and I feed Iams brand food, so it's not the cheapy stuff) Asked by cadeau111 19 months ago Similar questions: dog started pooping crate matter 30 min hours Pets > Dogs.

3 It sounds like he wants to be out running or he wants to be with you instead of in a cage. If he's a rescue, he's had enough of cages. I've never understood this whole crate thing myself.

And having two cages together doesn't mean he's not lonely. Dogs will actually sleep together each other, with their heads on each other's legs, etc. They're pack animals. And they're very social.

He may also want to be sleeping with you. The crate probably reminds him of his racing days and it's causing emotional problems. He needs a lot of love and attention.

Try letting him be out in and roaming around. These dogs don't want to be cooped up.

6 oh, he gets plenty of exercise. And he's NEVER in the crate if I'm home. They both have beds around the house, and sleep with us at night.

We go on a 30 min to a hour walk daily, they have yard access, and we walk on the beach and go to the dog park about every other day. If I leave him out of the crate and leave, my whole house is torn to shreds, hence the crate. The both go into their crates as comfort zones, and he's never put in it as a punishment.

The first thing I do when I get home from crating them (besides let them go potty) is sit on the floor and rub all over both of them, pet them, talk to them and love on them. I can't risk my carpets being torn to shreds, my blinds being ripped off the windows to not crate him. So any other suggestions.

I don't crate my dogs for days at a time, and I have to make a living for me and my dogs, so them being alone for a few hours is okay. And like you said, they were raised in crates. They are used to crates.

Being in the crate is not an issue. The rescue I got them from made me promise I'd use a kennel for the first 90 days atleast. Its not a lack of exercise issue, its not a lack of love issue, its not a too much food issue, its not a cheap food issue.. so... humor me?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
