What it sounds like from what you have said is that you were outspoken and they viewed this as a threat. Nobody may have agreed with the new policy but you were the one who stood up and said so. It happens.My belief on this is - better to find a new job and go where the atmosphere is more conducive to what you are looking for.
As you said, they were instituting policy that you did not agree with. So, why stay? Move on and don't look back!

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
