Need Suggestions For Gift Ideas For 21 Year Old Son's Birthday My son is turning 21 in April. He is not a drinker, so we thought throwing a party would not be the best idea. He lives in Colorado and we live in Omaha.

We thought about flying out there, having one of his friends get him to some place for dinner and have a few other friends there. But, our schedules have conficts with his, so we thought about flying him to Omaha and taking him out to dinner with family here (versus friends in Colorado). Any other suggestions?

I'd leave a lot up to him. I wouldn’t try to fly him home unless he’s specifically asked for that. He may want to be independent and be in his new home during his birthday.My kids are 21 and 23 now.

My husband and I usually do a party and some gift that would be special when they have a birthday. Often we also do a "family dinner" which is separate from the party. This involves me making the birthday person’s requested dinner or taking them to a requested restaurant.

This is where we give them the non-party portion of their gifts. During my son’s birthday-before-last, my husband and I lived in a different town than the "kids" did. We sent my daughter money and instructions for the cake and she took him out to eat for his birthday.

We also sent him a separate gift that he’d been wanting. (I think it was a new video card for his computer that year.) If you know something he’d really like then clearly get him that, but something else that helps "kids" when they’re young and in a different town is --gift certificates. You can get gift cards for Target, any major grocery store, Chili’s, Friday’s, and other chain restaurants, book stores, Old Navy or other inexpensive clothing store, etc. If he wants to come home and you can afford to get him an open ticket home that he can use when he wants, that’s great.

But I wouldn’t push him to spend his 21st birthday itself there. I hope this helps. Cheers!

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
