To be truthful I have to say that I think many of them look absurd. But it is no skin off of my nose and if it is what they truly want then more power to them. The fashions we all had in the 70s can only be described as bizarre so we should not be too critical of anyone else IMHO.
My best friend had a nose piercing back in 1970 or there abouts. She wore a red ruby in her nose. It was one of the coolest and most outrageous things I had seen before, she also shaved off her eyebrows and had a rainbow of colors dyed on the side of her head.
She was a former Hippie, knew almost everyone around the L. A, Calif. Area in the music business, Went to high school with Jackson Browne and a few others.
She even babysat a few times for Frank Zappa and lived for a short time in San Francisco a 13 year old runaway and babysat for Grace Slick a few times while up there. She was 4 years older then me and I really thought she was it. These days, I don't think half the people with these piercings are the "real deal" I think they are just following a trend.
My younger brother and older sister have piercings in places I don't want to see, namely "private areas" My brother was a tough roadie for years and my sister, poor thing was trying desperately to hang on to her husband who was 14 years her jr. They would go to Jamaica with groups of others, I didn't know for a long time that they were "swingers" Not my cup or tea, we weren't even allowed ot have ear piercings when we lived at home. When I worked at a casino in Las Vegas, our hotel would sponsor the annual tattoo and body piercing convention at The Gold Coast Casino. The attendees were pretty nice people for the most part but they all had jobs as either bartenders, tattoo artists or in the music industry.
The "normal" working world is not ready for tattooed and pierced people yet. I personally would never get a tattoo or pierce anything other then my ears but whatever.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
