Public sector workers already have substantial benefits that couldn't possibly be available to the private sector because private sector workers don't have the bottomless pit of the taxpayer to finance them for doing non jobs. To expect a pension after spending their whole lives being paid for doing the square root of b****r all is just icing on the cake that's denied to the rest of us who not only have to work for a living but pay taxes to keep public sector workers in a job too.
I respect the opinions of all answers given so far! I would like to give my perspective on this. I was a council worker for 36 years, I was a school caretaker.
The hours were long and the pay just about adequate. I paid into a contributory superannuation scheme for 35 years. I put up with long hours and slight pay because of relative job security, o.k.
In all my time there I had about 14 weeks sick with pay, 12 of those were recovering from a heart attack! I retired 5 years ago and still pay income tax on my pension! I post this to show that all public sector employees are not on fantastic wages, We see reports of teachers, policemen, social workers etc. Nothing is said about, caretakers, kitchen staff, cleaners, security men/women, the lower paid are ignored and classed the same as the high paid!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
