Alcohol can interfere with your sleep and your mood. Minimizing your alcohol intake will reduce its impact on your mood and sleep. If you're having trouble with the amount of alcohol you drink, talk to your mental health provider to see if you have an addiction problem, which is not uncommon among people living with bipolar disorder.
Some people use alcohol to calm their mania, or self-medicate, which is never a good idea and should be discussed with your mental health provider. Too much alcohol also interferes with bipolar medication, because many medications interact negatively with alcohol. Having one or two drinks early in the evening, at least an hour before taking your medications, should minimize the impact of alcohol on the effectiveness on your medications and probably won't interfere with your sleep.
