I've read that newborn babies sometimes get their nights and days confused or mixed up. Should you try to keep a newborn baby from falling asleep during the day? Will that make it sleep longer during the night or make her fall asleep faster at night?

Let that baby sleep.. You cannot train a newborn. Let nature take its course and soon the newborn will be an infant sleeping through the night. There are many ways to try to ease the first few weeks of life but the best one I know of is to just enjoy it while it lasts.
Going without sleep really sucks, but that little baby needs its mommy every 2 hours whether you like it or not. Newborns are tough to deal with, but make sure you don't disturb nature by getting frustrated and irate. Take a deep breath and give it all you have, thats the best advice I can give :) Good luck .
My opinion.....Let baby sleep I am a Mother of two and a Grandmother of five. I was very involved in my Grandchildren's lives also. I did not have my babies on a strict schedule.
I don't believe on making them wait the allotted time before they get to eat again. Why have a cranky baby for an hour because he is hungry? Babies are used to sleep, eat, sleep, eat.
I agree with one of the other posts, they will put themself on a schedule. Maybe with a little help from you. My oldest Son started out waking up only twice during the night but ate about every 2 hours during the day and slept in between.
Go figure! By 8 weeks he slept through the night. I thought that was great.
Unfortunately my second wasn't so easy because I was working and had a sitter. If I am not mistaken, I think the pediatrician will advice you to feed an infant at least every 4 hours even if you have to wake him/her. My daughter-in-law had her 3 babies on a very strict schedule and it worked fabulous for her.But....it took a lot of work on her part and a lot of staying home.
Actually, I thought they had HER on a schedule. A lot of things are a factor. Are you a stay at home Mom?
That is a big issue. In my opinion, I think it is cruel to keep a sleepy baby awake. Think how you would feel...... Cranky!
How long does it take to settle a cranky baby down? I would think a cold, wet, washcloth on his/her face would make him/her just plain MAD! I remember tickeling my son's feet and under his chin to try and keep him awake long enough to finish eating!
I would let that baby sleep when she wants to sleep. She is still tiny.It will all come together in time, I promise. It won't take as long as you might think.
Relax and enjoy. Sorry, I feel like I have been babbling! I hope I have made SOME sense.
I must say I love newborns! Blossom Sources: experience, two daughter's-in-law's experience, 2 sons and 5 grandchildren .
No babies may get their days and nights reversed, but you should not purposely keep your newborn awake. Babies tend to do anything on their schedule, not yours (unfortunately). Some babies are GREAT sleepers, both my kids slept throughout the night from birth, but some babies only sleep 3 or 4 hours at a time.
Unfortunately it's just the territory of having children. They will start to sleep longer hours when their bodies are ready.... which will more than likely be when they are at least a few months old, if not at least one year old.... babies and children alike need their sleep. That is when they do most of their developing, and it's also their way of getting closure for the stuff that they did and the stimulation they were exposed to.
Let them sleep on their schedules. The night/day reversal will work itself out..... good luck! Sources: personal experience .
Newborn babies require 16 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. Newborn babies require 16 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period so they need naps throughout the day. There is little you can do or should do to make your baby sleep through the night right away.
Some of the reasons...their stomachs are very small so they get hungry faster. This is especially true if you are breatfeeding your baby as breast milk is more easily digested than formula. Pretty much all babies do is sleep, eat, poop, and have brief periods of awake time.
If you try to keep the baby up throughout the day you are likely going to end up with a very tired irratable baby and you are really doing the baby a disservice as they need a lot of sleep to promote growth etc... The longest sleep period a newborn should have is 4-5 hours at a time. At around 3 months of age they may start sleeping for longer periods. Children require naps up to around 4-5 years of age.
A suggestion...In my situation my wife would give the baby a feeding around 8pm or so and then go to bed soon after...the baby would then generally awake around 11pm. I would then handle that feeding with pumped breast milk or formula and put the baby back to bed allowing my wife to sleep. Our baby would then sleep until ~3am and my wife would handle that feeding...this gave the wife 6 hours or so of uninterupted sleep and pretty much allowed me to go to sleep at my typical bed time of midnight or so and sleep through the night. No doubt it is rough those first few months but don't worry it will get better before you know it and you will start getting sleep again.

Don't mess with her sleep schedule... If she's a newborn, she needs all the sleep she's getting, and she should be the one leading it. If she's wakeful at night, bring her into bed with you and nurse her, just keep it calm and low key. When she's awake and alert in the day, give her as much attention as she wants.
Gradually she'll adapt to a more usual sleep cycle, and trying to force her into it is an exercise in frustration for all concerned. --it's not a chronic condition. Enjoy her--because before you know it, she'll be grown.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
