I have some concerns... Okay, my opinion on these are really mixed and to some degree, I need to see where this leads before I know for sure. I would have preferred that they 'clean up' the topics, before giving us these 'superpowers'. I think in theory, it is a good ideas to be able to add similar topics and/or topics of interest, but I don't know how it will work in reality.
I am afraid that there may be disagreement about which topics should be added and where they should be added (similar topics or topics of interest). Just as some disagree about what topics should be listed under 'topics' for each question. Also, this does not 'clean up' misspelled topics, which there are many of those, should those be added to similar topics or just ignored?
It would be very nice if they had given us the 'power' to 'clean up' topics and merge plural/singular and synonyms, however, I don't know how they would handle merging the experience points in merged topics. That has been an ongoing issue. I am also afraid that over time, as more topics are added, there may end up being a lot of 'clutter' and 'confusion' and it will be hard to see what is and isn't relevant.
I am hoping that we are all prepared to handle this responsibility. I must admit, part of me wishes that they would have decided themselves what topics should be linked to other topics, however, I appreciate that they are trying to give us more input and control over the site.
They don't work properly yet I picked both of them up as soon as I saw them and went to work. Unfortunately they keep telling me "This topic is under review" etc. Etc. I think it's a start in the right direction, but it really doesn't address the issue of people earning experience in topics that the question doesn't concern, or for those people concerned with coins, getting their correct coins bonuses for the correct topics.
I was really hoping that there would be a true topic merge. One that would eventually combine experience points etc.Into one topic. Some topics are exactly the same thing, yet some people don't know about them, thus people are getting experience points in one topic when they should get both or, he topics should be combined.
How many people have levelled up in computer and computers, yet those experience points haven't been combined. I believe this would have been the way for Askville to address the fact that people haven't achieved L2 in some topics, rather than dropping the requirements. Decreasing the amount of experience points that someone needs to level up dilutes the distinction of being at a higher level, I think.
If this was so much a problem, why not address that stupid and ever so annoying default okay by making newbies vote before going on in Askville, or finding a better way to educate them. If people are getting one experience point for great answers, how will they ever level up. The same goes for voting abuse.
I know there are certain avatars that I dread seeing once I submit my answer, because they always find some childish reason to kill me in the voting. I was hoping for a true topic merge and would pay a huge price in quest coins for all of my levels that I have right now, but only if there was a way to add active topics and rip some active topics from the topic line. When I saw them, I looked at the price and signed up for them. I was sorry that I couldn't buy ten! But, on cooler reflection, I haven't a clue how either the Topic Bulletin Board Superpower and/or the Topic Editing Superpower is supposed to be used--or why one would use it.
I figured that I'd just muddle through and let Ed or someone else smart get the hang of it and clue me in eventually. Obviously, I haven't used the these new powers yet. I guess that a grabbed them without knowing exactly how to use them because: I'm a latent compulsive shopper.
Fear of inflation is in the air and we better buy stuff now while we can. Take your pick. 1 I haven't tried the superpowers, but they seem odd. That's just from checking out the Askville blog about them. I'm not thrilled with what I see on the Home page.
I like the topics being on the side, but I don't see anyway to narrow down a search through topices. Example: if I click on "home", I can't narrow down those questions/discussions by any other topic such as "maintennance". Before we could search with 2-4 or more topics.

It doesn't have to be the biggest. Why is it yours? " "Would "Antiques" be a good askville topic?" "What is your favorite catagory or topic on Askville and why?
" "What do you think is the meaning of "yes master" as a topic on askville? " "What superpowers could Askville introduce for question askers?" "Is there a limit to how many superpowers one can have on Askville? " "Which topic would you want your askville name to be associated with?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
