Of course it's not OK to spank a child. To use pain to control another human being shows that you have lost control. All it does is cause the child fear.
There was an experiment where children were told to look after a hamster and not play with toys. All the children played with the toys and as they did the hamster was made to disappear. The children who were used to being hit, (or spanked as people like to call it to minimise the fact) all lied about what had happened because they feared the consequence.
The children not used to being hit, told the truth and admitted they had played with the toys, were concerned about the welfare of the hamster. If you look at societies where children are not spanked, they are usually better behaved. And that is a fact you can look up for yourself.
Violence begets violence and that is perhaps why people who were hit themselves, think it is OK to do themselves now they are parents.
Without agreeing or disagreeing with your premise, it has to be said that your argument is facile in the extreme. If you wish to argue against spanking or chastising children, then try some other reason. Adults do 'spank' each other.
They batter the crap out of each other and even kill each other. And in many instances they DO think it's ok to do that! Keep in mind that it is every adults duty to teach children that certain actions have repercussions, not always pleasant.
A very valuable life lesson. Responsible spanking and corporal punishment has not been proven to have any lasting damage, but does have the virtue of teaching valuable lessons. By the way, I frequently suffered corporal punishment as a child, both in school and at home, and it never did my siblings and myself, or my peers, any harm.
We are however, mostly well mannered adults, with due respect for authority, the law and our fellows. Which is far more than can be said for the many 'unspanked' and loutish children these days.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
