You have to change your whole way of life in order to deal with depression. Firstly try to eat good, healthy food, no sugar, no coffee, and definitely no smoking. Your exercise should involve some time outside, the oxygen lifts depression and I find it really important to get out every day.
Never ever sleep in in the mornings, it may feel good at the time but it is a nightmare for depression. No matter how you feel get up and get out as soon as possible. When you come home have a healthy meal, watch a good film, good music(do not wallow in depressing music, it is to easy to do but it does not help in th long run).
Some people think yoga is great for depression but pilates works far better for me. You fill your days from start to finish no matter whether you feel like it. Do things you used to enjoy.
There will come a time when unexpectedly you start to enjoy things and get a bit of balance into your life. Drop as many stresses from your life as possible. You have to put yourself first for a while.
If all this fails then your depression is a bit more severe and you should think about going to see your doctor for medication. It is not always possible to cure depression by fitness and St. John Wort or 5HP(herbal supplement for depression).
I think the study is right to an extent. When you spend your time excercising, you are taking your mind off the depressive thoughts and feelings. The busier you are with your life, the less time you have to dwell over past issues or loneliness.
A lot of the trouble in Western culture is that life is too easy for people. You don't see poor people in Asia and Africa being depressed over the silly things people get depressed about when they ought to be living in luxury. But the poorer people are more concerned with survival and don't have time to be depressed, if this makes sense.
Basically, if you can deal with the problems causing your depression, do so. If you can't or if it's out of loneliness, make yourself busy by doing excercise, sports, playing games, walking, or whatever you like doing. The more you dwell on your misery, the worse you make it.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
