What are the ballpark differences in energy consumption of screens using different technologies? (e.g. CRT, LCD, LED, plasma etc)?

Slide 5 of a presentation at EnergyStar. Gov (energystar.gov/ia/partners/prod_developm... ) shows CRT TVs usually use under 100 W and are comparable (for a given screen area) with LCD TVs. Projection TVs use about the same power, around 175 W, almost independent of screen area due to most of the power being used by the projection bulbs.

For HDTVs, CNET has a good review article on this at reviews.cnet.com/green-tech/tv-power-eff... . According to that article, the average plasma TV uses 301 W, the average LCD TV 111 W, the average LED TV 101 W. According to the article: - quote - The power used by an active television is determined by three factors: screen size; technology type, such as plasma or LCD; and picture brightness, which nearly always depends on user-selected picture settings.... Bigger TVs use more power.

A 32-inch LCD uses about half as much power as a 52-inch LCD. Of course, the 52-incher's screen is nearly three times as large as that of the 32-inch model, so the efficiency payoff for going down in screen size does tend to taper off ... Plasma TVs use more power than LCD TVs. In our tests of TVs since the beginning of 2008 plasmas consume, on average, roughly two to three times more electricity to produce an image of the same brightness as LCD.... LED-backlit LCDs are the most efficient type of flat-panel TV available today, although the actual savings over a standard LCD usually amounts to less than $20 per year.

- end quote - The article also contains a link (http://reviews.cnet.com/green-tech/tv-consumption-chart/?tag=contentBody;nextPage ) to a chart specifying power usage for a large number of specific models in both their default and in calibrated mode, as well as the annual cost with some assumptions on hours per day and cost of electricity per kWhr.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
