What are the hard black specks coming out of mainly cold water sink/tub faucets? They do not smear & are not oily. Thx?

They do not smear & are not oily. Thx!32 yr artisan well, but 14 yr home, chorine added to well when home put on property. A lot of iron in water for few years, but specks just started appearing a few weeks ago.

It may be sediment from the bottom of the well coming through. I've had that problem occasionally when we've had a dry summer and the well water level dropped. Unscrew the filter caps on your sinks faucets and clean them out (if you have them) and you'll see the sediment in there.It looks like little black specs of sand.

Eventually that problem did go away once the water levels reached more normal levels. We didn't notice a material difference in the flow of our well when experiencing drought conditions. Are you having decreases water flow?

Some of our neighbors have had their wells hydrofracted to solve that problem. Otherwise we just needed to wait for the rain! Pdf.

And we haven't had as much rain this summer. I'm sorry, I don't know what hydrofracking is, although it's a cool word! :) Thank you for being willing to share your knowledge with me today, you are very helpful and have relieved my mind quite a bit.

Or they are iron shavings from the pipes themselves. This is why many prefer a switch to copper pipes.

Thank you for that input. We don't know what kind of pipe is coming from the well to the house; PVC once it hits the house so could be a distinct possibility from the well pipe. Thanks again for responding!

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
