It is an easy category to think of for almost any question that isn't tightly focused I think a lot of people put on almost all the less serious or humorous questions here. But the problem I think you are alluding to is the fact that so many questions asked here really ARE crap and not worthy of bothering to answer. Also remember Sturgeon's Law - "90% of Everything is Crap", maybe it's just the odds.

I rarely visit the home page, but I saw that today. I think that it’s saying two things. I’ll list them individually.No.1 is more negative while two more positive(sorta) 1.
Askville is getting an influx of new people, many think that the coins will be worth something tangible. Those people have also learned the some Asvillers come here to answer fun questions,so those questions will bring a windfall of quest coins. Huge Yahoo!
Answers influx as of late. Unfortunately it seems that most of these people don’t realize that levelling up in a topic, then submitting good answers will fetch you(them) the most coinage. 2.
Some newbies are starting to realize (due to pressure from the community) that we generally frown upon topic abuse. So many people were posting their five question a day limit all in the Askville topic, which made absolutely no sense. I know that many new members have received criticism on that one.
I’ve done it myself(criticize),but normally try to be diplomatic and do it via private message. I believe that is why you didn’t categorize this question in the Askville topic, because it is an Askville community question. These newbies are also starting to read the FAQ as well I actually see an even split over the last two months.
Some aspects of Askville are on a sharp upward positive trend, while the other side is trying to drag Askville through the mud(although unintentionally). Only time will tell, but I’m glad to see you back,Marc. Sources: My Epinion .
Random crap Well, I think it only says that many of us can't decide on an appropriate category for our questions! And that many of them fit in the "random crap" category....the opinions, the fun questions, the rants.... I don't think it's a negative reflection on Askville, though. I'm interested in hearing your take on it, though, Marc.
That we're not doing the greatest job categorizing questions! Or, that a lot of us are having fun asking questions that are, well, about random crap. Really, what question isn't somewhat random?
Personally, I think it's a little of both. This is a fun community where there are a nice mix of "real" questions, and lighter, fun questions about, dare I say, random crap. But, there's also a poorly explained, hard-to-navigate, unmoderated topic selection feature.
It's a lot easier to choose "random crap" than to try to find the proper existing topic, and don't even get me going about creating a new topic! I suspect that if there was a topic-moderator superpower, questions would be more often categorized appropriately. I'm going to take the optimist's view, though, and say that the large "random crap" topic is a sign of what a fun-loving group we are, and that we don't take ourselves TOO seriously!

To me it says people are posting random things to boost their quest coin counts. Or they are really nosy. Or they don’t have anything else to do.
Or all of the above.
So let's discuss what Topics should be added to the ASKVILLE Topic...
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
