What is your thoughts on Oprah's recent episode on child molestation? A penny for your thoughts?

I think it was an important show and I do like that it is being talked about and brought out more into the open, where the general public is able to discuss it and know what to look for with their own children. It should have alerted any parent to the dangers, both obvious and not so obvious with babysitters and uncles, family members, internet safety. When it happens within the family, the victims are generally scared to say anything and have been threatened.

The one man was brutally honest saying he couldn't even be around his own grandchildren. It just sent chills through me. They need to be far away from society, that I do believe.

I had never heard of this island. What I didn't like about it though was the amazingly high cost of incarcerating these individuals who cannot be rehabilitated for the most part.

I will honor your request to write a hub on this issue, but give me a day or two as I have a lot on my plate right now. Will actually be a pleasure. Unfortunately, I did not see the show but with your help I'll get caught up.

Please also understand, after thirty years of dealing with the victims of molesters and abusers, I'm not the most nuetral of people. I admit to my bias.Later.

RebekahELLE - great answer; it is amazing what it costs for each inmate. On the one hand, it seems like we are wasting money on these people, but on the other, are we doing a service, having this money put toward this use? Immartin - take your time.

When I was sexually abused as a child it was family members and not strangers who hurt me. When I told my parents they did not call the police they just told the person not to come back to the house. There are thousands of sex offenders out there that have not been caught yet because families choose to sweep it under the rug.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
