What natural or homeopathic remedy can be given to a dog suffering from severe anxiety I have a beautiful 7 year old border collie who was always afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks, but this year she is really bad. If she even senses that it is going to rain she refuses to go outside and for the first time ever she ran away when she was outside and a sudden storm hit. I would like to avoid a prescription tranquilizer--I don't want to make her a zombie I just want to relieve some of the anxiety and keep her safe.

Natural vet, or human remedies There are such things as homeopathic vets, depending on where you live. I would go to the health food store and get "rescue remedy". It's a Bach Flower remedy.It has an alcohol base, so the dog may not take it, but it could be mixed just a few drops with her water.

I think you would have to give it to her on a daily basis, since you can't always know when it's going to rain. There's also a terrific product by Pep, Inc. Called "happy camper".

Don't laugh, I've saved lives with this stuff. Whether the ingredients are safe for animals, I can't say. There are about six different herbs in it.

There's probably some site that will tell you if they are safe for animals. You could mix the contents of a capsule in her food. If that doesn't work, take a couple yourself and you'll feel better about what you have to deal with.
