Where is the nice/kind humor? Do you nice it? Is society getting more violent/sad/destructive even in humor?

Maybe people aren't really happy...so it shows in their humor. Sex humor...many Catholic people have these jokes..Why? I think our society can't even play gentle music....Heavy metals is not for slow dancing or weddings.

Can we regain a sense of hope/happiness/peace/joy/kindness and more? Asked by Shasha 22 months ago Similar questions: nice kind humor society violent sad destructive Entertainment > Humor.

I thought this one was pretty good. It seems like it's going in a different direction and then the unexpected innocence of the ending made it that much more amusing. A man with an obvious winking problem was applying for a job as a sales representative for a large company.

The interviewer looked over his papers and said, "This is phenomenal. You've graduated from the best schools; your recommendations are wonderful, and your experience is unparalleled."Normally, we'd hire you without a second thought. However, a sales representative has a highly visible position, and we're afraid that your constant winking will scare off potential customers.

I'm sorry....we can't hire you." "But wait," he said. "If I take two aspirin, I'll stop winking! " "Really?

Great! Show me! " So the applicant reached into his jacket pocket and began pulling out all sorts of condoms: red condoms, blue condoms, ribbed condoms, flavored condoms; finally, at the bottom, he found a packet of aspirin.

He tore it open, swallowed the pills, and stopped winking. "Well," said the interviewer, "that's all well and good, but this is a respectable company, and we will not have our employees womanizing all over, the country! " "Womanizing?

What do you mean? I'm a happily married man! " "Well then, how do you explain all these condoms?" "Oh, that," he sighed.

"Have you ever walked into a pharmacy, winking, and asked for aspirin? " I do agree with you that society in general could really stand to be kinder and less abrasive as a whole, and that mean-spirited humor and jokes at others' expenses have become way too prevalent. And yes, by and large, destructive behavior seems to be becoming the norm.

I share your wish for a kinder, more tolerant society. That being said, I believe there is a time and a place for a broad spectrum of behavior. Our problem is, I think, that we've lost the sense of appropriateness.

We don't seem to know (or care) when it's "okay" to behave in certain ways. In other words, just because you CAN do something doesn't mean that you necessarily SHOULD.(I still grin, when I think of my old next-door neighbor. Once, when she embarrassed herself in front of a bunch of friends, she turned to me and sighed and said, "Well, that went off like a fart in church, didn't it?

Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. ") Uncomfortable humor can actually be used as a teaching tool if it is done properly, and if the audience is willing to indulge in a bit of self-examination --and not just blindly react and strike back. Also, some people might use humor because they are unable to say what is really in their hearts--they're not secure enough to show their soft side, but they might be reaching out, asking you to hear what they can't really say.

It can be frustrating to try to decipher all the mixed signals. People are incredibly complicated. Sometimes it amazes me that we're not all more screwed up than we are!

But, even though sometimes you really wonder what will become of us, I believe that you have to have hope. The music thing is the same, I think. There is a time and a place for soft, gentle music that heals the soul.

And there is also a time and a place for loud, raunchy heavy metal, or hip-hop music. Yeah, sure there's a lot of horrible stuff with cruel, ugly, offensive lyrics, but there's also stuff that can make your soul want to soar just as much as any Beethoven symphony, if you give it a chance.(And if you like opera, and are honest, you'd have to admit that there are a whole lot of similarities between grand opera and heavy metal!) ---And I wouldn't know what to do at the gym if I couldn't listen to my hard, loud, undoubtedly offensive-to-some music! Check out this video: youtube.com/watch It's the Black-Eyed Peas, and their song, "Union.

" It is a song of hope, one of my favorite songs--one of my "feel good" songs. I hope you like it, too! The inspiring lyrics can be found here: www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Union-lyrics-Black-Eyed-Peas/EAE39D996B25F83848257013000F5F12 Ultimately all we can do is all we can do.

Even if it seems hopeless, each one of us is responsible for the small corner of the earth we inhabit, and our effect on those with whom we interact. Think about the "butterfly effect. " We really don't know how, in the end, our actions, however small they are, will influence others, or what the impact may be.

Thanks for the excellent question/comments.It has made me do a bit of thinking I wouldn't have ordinarily done at this time of the day, and I find I'm in a better frame of mind now than I was when I started!.

Americans have been viewing "winning" so much on TV that they've come to expect that of life. The logical next step is to grab it when it isn't handed to them; thus, they are short and even nasty with others and then hide that as "humor. " Have you heard the "I was only joking" defense?

It's stupid, but the stupider ones are those who accept it instead of nailing the person for what she or he really is: unfunny and mean. We should be more willing to call such people liars because they're really trying to have it both ways: insult AND be well thought of. "Can we regain a sense of hope/happiness/peace/joy/kindness and more?"

Nope. "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold" (Matthew 24:12). Actually, dear , it'll worsen.

Hang on! .
