Default 3.0 I only appeal when I've received a default 3.0. This happens if not enough votes are cast an answer, most frequently when a new user doesn't understand they're supposed to vote. It's usually a "where can I find..." kind of a question.
I presume they get the info they want and never some back. When I get a low score that is the result of votes cast by other answerers, I tend to accept it. I do respect the opinions given.
But that's just me, and the appeal process is for the use of people to use however they choose. Particularly on opinion questions, you may get a lower score than you "should" because one of the answerers didn't like your opinion. If you feel strongly enough, the appeal process is for your use.
The benefit is the peace of mind that comes from having more presumably objective people evaluate your answer and potentially getting a better score.
Appeal. I realize that some people seem too stingy and appeal answers that shouldn't really be appealed but there are circumstances that appeal helps A LOT. There are newbies who come, ask their questions and run away.In that case you are going to end up with a default 3 stars.
I would definitely appeal, if I end up with a default 3 stars. In some cases other answerers underrate your answer, either to get the BA Ribbon or because they don't understand the correct answer. I recently answered a question and my answer was THE only correct answer but got a 3 star.
There was another answerer. I am sure answerer and asker , both gave me 3 stars because both of them are around. I think they didn't realize that my answer was correct and the other answer was wrong.
So, I appealed and I ended up with the BA. In a lot of cases when I appeal I end up with the BA.So, I really like the appeal process and I use it when needed. If you ever get an appeal that you thought the person does not deserve higher please vote as you think the answer deserves.
I have seen some people punish an appeal. Please don't do that! Paradise.

There are several reasons. The biggest reason is a lack of ratings. If the user does not rate an answer, and there was only one answer, then the answer gets a default rating of 3 stars, which is not very good.
I appeal these ratings, to get a more accurate rating of my answer. When there are multiple answers, the answerers are in competition with each other. Some find it hard to rate other answers honestly if the other answers are better than theirs.
Their ratings are biased, and may reflect lower than the real value of the answer. The Asker's vote is counted twice as a more unbiased rating, but this does not always counter-balance the answerer's bias. Third, there are answerers that intentionally rate other answers low for personal reasons, regardless of the value or accuracy of the answer. It is impossible to track these since individual ratings are hidden, but it is evident in some of the lower ratings on good answers.
There will always be trolls on the internet to spread depression and discontent. Another reason is to break ties.No Best Answer bonus is awarded if the top rated answers have the same raw score. Appealing can help break a tie and award the bonus.
The benefit to appealing is to possibly get a higher rating for your answer. The gold and point reward will be adjusted with the new rating. I have appealed over 100 answers, and gained a ton of gold, points, and best answers.
I hope this helps..
Sometimes the vote just isn't fair Sometimes, after you put your heart and soul into an answer...or do a lot of research...or go into a lot of detail to explain how to do something... It's kind of disappointing to check the final rating you get and find out that you only got 3 stars...then, by checking on the ratings on the other answers, you find that everybody only got 3 stars.... It's usually a good bet that the person asking the question is a 'newbie'...who really doesn't understand that a 3 star rating...is pretty much just OK...not even a 'good'. At least, now we have the option to 'appeal' the vote. When the appeal is sent out to a more experienced Askviller, they will usually vote you a higher score, simply because they appreciate the time and effort that you put into the answer.
For me, it's not the amount of gold earned...it's more wanting to be treated fairly for a correct answer that I put a lot of time and thought into. I'm glad we have that feature. Not only for myself, but for the other Askvillers who get an unfair vote and I get a chance to raise their score when they submit an appeal.

Some Askers never rate the Answers, giving thereby a default rating of 3 stars; and some Askers low-rate honest, ..... polite answers containing opinions that the Asker does not agree with. An appeal allows the Answerer an opportunity to try for what might be a fairer rating.
" "Today, my four year old wanted to join in at Askville. He pressed "appeal this answer" to my closed answer!" "Appeal rating even if you have the "Best Answer"" "Can you appeal the result of an Askville appeal? " "Why am I NEVER able to see my own answer rating?
When asked to appeal a rating - what do you do when you are asked to appeal a rating, and you don't think the answer....
Is it possible to appeal an answer rating...
Today, my four year old wanted to join in at Askville. He pressed "appeal this answer" to my closed answer!
Appeal rating even if you have the "Best Answer.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
