Why can't you vote for your answer to the Best answer when a question expires and becomes an undecided answer?

Because it is obvious that YOU think your answer is best. Therefore, everyone would get 1 vote and they would cancel each other out. It's much easier to just eliminate that process.

The only thing I wish is that people would be able to see the current votes on questions they answered--which you can't do unless you vote for someone else.

Because people would vote their own answers as the best, as well as their friends answers the best. It would not be a meritocracy, and the person asking the question may not believe this question is the best. It would be a "people's choice" answer as the best.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
