Why do children with ADHD have low self-esteem?

Often, low self-esteem occurs in children with the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) when they feel that they are out of control in their lives. They often have good intentions, and they feel upset as they are called to account for their bad behavior. Low self-esteem may result also from being in a low mood, from feeling blue about being out of control, or from the cascade of negative feedback they get in school and from peers.
