I did not see a provision to include illegal immigrants in the latest version of President Obama's plan. My understanding is that Federal law generally restricts non-citizens (undocumented or recent legal immigrants) from Medicaid. State laws are different.
There does seem to be a hysteria about what the plan might be such as all the private employers will opt for the government plan and thereby becoming like "Canada" (single payer system). I'm no expert but that presumes employers won't use a "better" set of healthcare benefits to attract employees and that all single payer systems are like Canada (they are not).
Regardless of what the healthcare bill will ultimately say, as taxpayers we are paying for medical care of newly legal immigrants, illegal immigrants, the poor and uninsured now. What usually happens, if the patient doesn't qualify for medicaid, is that all of these people end up coming into the ER for conditions that could be and should be treated cheaply elsewhere or for conditions that if caught earlier would not have been an emergency. We pay for this one way or another, if not through medicaid than through increased cost to our own healthcare.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
