Why is our new cat peeing on our bed? Could she be doing it because of the other pets?

We recently took in a 1 and a half year old female Siamese. She has peed on our bed twice already (thank goodness we have a protective cover! ).

What could be the cause of this? We have 5 other cats. Could she be doing it because of them?

Or maybe from being in a new home? Asked by Steph77 47 months ago Similar questions: cat peeing bed pets Pets.

It could be a couple different things I have two cats and one of them recently took to peeing in a certain spot in the hallway and it was driving me crazy, so I did some research and found out that unusual cat potty habits could be related to several different things: 1. The litter box may not be clean enough for the cats liking, or too many cats are using the same box. In theory there should be 1+ boxes for each cat, with 6 cats, you should have at least 4 or 5 boxes minimum for them to use.2.

The cat could have a bladder infection 3. It could be adjustment or territory related. What can you do about it?1.

Get more litter boxes and change them often2. Take the cat to the vet if it pees frequently3. Try keeping the cat in a bathroom until it learns to use the litter box, and it adjusts to the other cats4.

Stay on top of the odor so the cat doesn't keep going in the same place, some suggested products below... I am wondering if she was litter trained to begin with. Also is she spayed? Cats will mark in the peak of their breeding cycle.

If she is not spayed, that could be the problem. All animals should be spayed unless you are planning to breed them. However, the important question is if the situation is medical or behavioral.

You need to have a urinalysis done by your vet to determine this. She may have a urinary infection, in which case she will need medication. If so, is not her fault.

If the urinalysis is normal, then it is a behavioral problem. That would be my guess. Coming into a family with five other cats would be stressful for her, unless she lived with a lot of cats before.

Siamese cats are more prone to anxiety than other cats anyway. They are an assertive breed and can become aggressive due to their high degree of anxiety. She could also be peeing on the bed due to separation anxiety.

Are you home when she does this or are you asleep? In either case, she could be missing the attention that she normally gets.In either of these cases she may need some medication to calm her down. The first thing you need to do is to consult your veterinarian.

I wish you and your "kitty family" the best of luck with your new addition. Hopefully she just needs a little more time to become adjusted :-) E C PET CARE Behavioral urination provokes cats to mark. Most cats mark with the tail straight up and a horizontal spray of small amounts of urine out the back end will leave their scent.

Male and female cats mark. Unneutered males mark the most but females in the peak of their breeding cycle mark as well. Reasons for marking include sexual, territorial and competitive interactions between cats.

If your cat is totally an indoor pet they will still know if a new tom cat or a breeding female is prowling outside the window. This is even more frustrating for an indoor cat. Indoor marking of doorways, windows, furniture and clothing are acceptable items for your cat.

Of course, this is not acceptable to humans because the odor is so offensive. Aggressive behavior in cats I believe is the most offensive. This is a situation you will take personally.

Your cat is unhappy and is selecting the individual in the household who is making him/her unhappy. Perhaps the threat is a new partner, newborn baby or another cat in the household. This is not a common behavioral problem.

An analysis of the urine and the environmental conditions are of utmost importance to make an accurate diagnosis. Groups of animals--incl. Domestic ones! -- often work on the concept of dominance.

This dominance is not gender-determined, nor necessarily related to size--though smaller-sized newbies generally have to prove themselves. This may seem like schoolyard bullying, but it does not come from mean-spiritedness, but from a desire for an "ordered society. " All are more comfortable when they know where they stand in the "pecking order."

Of course, the adult humans really rule (unless they're over-indulgent). See Leader of the Pack. Your newest addition is probably going through his/her initiation period; however, you need to make the baby understand that you don't approve of the behavior.

If you don't make it clear at this point she/he will think the behavior is ok and CONTINUE, and fail to integrate with the existing group. Since the newbie (or the other family four-footers) will pick up and continue behaviors eternally, you have to give them tough love, or your problem will explode. At least, keep the bedroom door closed for a couple of weeks; and watch for puddle spots elsewhere--you can also, short-term, add another litter pan and introduce the baby to it frequently.

They'll sort themselves out in a couple of weeks, if left on their own. If you interfere too strongly, the friction will continue. We often think of our pets as being cuddly little helpless baby children (eternally).

In reality, they have a lot in common with their ancestors--as we do. Sources: Leader of the Pack, et al.

Typically that would indicate the cat is mad at you or stressed for some reason... Some cats are evil little buggers and they understand that the bed is your personal area. The fact that the cat is peeing on your bed indicates the cat is mad at you or stressed for some reason. The most likely reasons would be the new environment and other pets.

What you can do is give the new cat an inordinate amount of attention and make it feel welcome. Basically try to make friends with it and get on its good side. Do not allow it access to your bedroom.

I think the fact that it is a new cat it probably just feels an inordinate amount of stress. Make it feel welcome...love on it a lot and hopefully she will stop.

Yes They have to mark there spot to let the other pets know that that is there's. To stop this you must get the cat fixed, this usually solves the problem.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
