Will a pcie x1 card work in a pcie x16 slot?

I just got a new desktop and it has more pcie x16 slots than pci or pcie x1 slots. My cards are all pci's like a usb hub and fax modem and sound card. I can't find any replacements in pcie x16's, only some in pcie x1's therefore the question?

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
