Will I find work easy to get as a civil engineer if I move to New Zealand for a year or two?

Civil Engineering has never been a "stable career" as the construction industry regularly swings between boom and bust. Even in good times the pay is pretty poor compared to many other professions, whilst in the bad times pay cuts or redundancy are almost guaranteed (unless you "work" in local government or a water company - but in that case you'd have to have zero ambition beyond fiddling your flexi-time). Also you'd probably never have a stable base, having to move round the country or world to find work.

Fine when you're in your 20s, but not so good when you want a more settled family life. You'd be much better off going into accountancy, banking, finance, medicine, dentistry, pharmacueticals, IT, or even further "education". They may be boring by comparison, but eventually all jobs become boring whilst money and stability become more and more important as you get older.

If you insist on making the biggest mistake of your life, then forget airy-fairy subjects like psychology and economics. Engineers are practical people and are not going to be impressed with such. Take serious subjects like maths, physics and chemistry.

Further maths would be okay, but is more for those destined to become full blown scientists.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
