Would like lens recommendation for Nikon D80. Outdoor sports, shooting from bleachers. My AF/VR 18-200mm not enough zoom.

The AF/VR 18-200mm is a great everyday lens for almost everything (at least for this amateur). However, I'm just not getting close enough with this lens when shooting football from the bleachers. Sometimes I can physically move up closer to the game, depending on the school, but most often I'm in the bleachers.

Hoping for a lens recommendation from experienced someone who is or has used something better...I want to get in closer - faces, ball handling, etc. Asked by debij40 52 months ago Similar questions: lens recommendation Nikon D80 Outdoor sports shooting bleachers AF VR 18 200mm zoom Arts > Photography.

I have the same camera I would recommend the nikon 70 - 300 mm af-s vr zoom-nikkor lens. But I don't know if this is enough zoom for you either. It runs about $500 at costco.com and about $486 on amazon both with free shipping (shipping is included in the costco price, super saver is free for amazon) also, costco has free techinical supprt, but you have to buy a service plan for amazon - I think it was $60 for 4 years.

Hope this helps! Sources: personal info, costco. Com, amazon.com kp02's Recommendations Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras Amazon List Price: $669.00 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5 (based on 49 reviews) .

A few suggestions I don't shoot sports regularly but do occasionally try to shoot some with my 18-200mm. I really don't have one single advice but some thoughts to share about 1. Things to watch out if you're looking for a lens with better zoom, especially for sports.

There are a few things to watch for, in addition to the price tag. Many telephoto lenses (even including those made by Nikon) have notorious slow focus, making them impractical for sports. Another thing to consider is as you get a bigger zoom, you have to be better at pre-framing your lens at the right time.

Otherwise, the action might be just falling out of your viewfinder. 2. You might consider getting a tele-converter, which can say turn a 200mm lens to a 400mm lens.An issue for this is as far as I know, most tele-converters won't work for these ultra-zoom lenses such as the 18-200mm.

(they should work all the typical telephotos such as 80-200mm, 400mm fixed, etc. ) 3. Have you considered simply cropping? If you don't plan to enlarge the pictures to some really big size, this might be the easiest option for now.

If you feel you do need to get something, here are some random thoughts 1. Nikkor 70-300mm VR f/4-5.6 . Not sure if 300mm is long enough.

2. Get a good Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8, plus a 2x teleconverter, to make it more like 160-400mm. 3.

Forget about Nikkor 80-400mm, or fixed 300mm Nikkor Its focus speed is notorious of being too slow.4. Lenses such as Nikkor 200-400mm VR have good reputation, but they are very expensive (easily $5000+). Last but not the least, before you buy anything, consider rent the equipment for a week or so.

There are on-line stores and local stores that do the rental. There is nothing that beat actual trial to see if the lens works for your specific environment and style. Try a teleconverter but you should really be on the field Not the answer you probably really want but..... No matter what lens you use, you are going to be disappointed in the results unless you get down to the field. The lens you have actually has enough range if you shoot from the sidelines and within 20 yards of the action. Having said all that, the least expensive method to adding range to your lens is a 1.4x teleconverter assuming you can give up one additional f-stop.

This could get expensive The AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G IF ED would be just about perfect and that vibration reduction really helps when you are zoomed out to 400mm. But they are over $5000. I personally have the under $500 dollar AF VR Zoom Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 IF ED and have gootn really nice results with it.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
