Do you agree with Stephen Hawking view on Heaven?

I respect Hawking and all he has learned, and his contributions to society. But, I also believe sometimes a person can get so close to the trees they no longer can see the forest too. I have no knowledge of why he reached that conclusion.Is it strictly science based or is some personal experiences at play too?

I would hope both considerations are at work in his conclusion, but I just don't know. He was a very courageous, intelligent and well learned man who contributed much to society where many people in his shoes would have given up. I am inspired and grateful to him for that.

I do however, not agree with his conclusions on heaven.

I've never read or heard of what Stephen Kawking has said But the story does sounds fairy talish.....streets of gold and you won't ever be hungry. Sit all day telling stories to each other?!?!?! Hmmmm I sit all day now!

And every time I log into facebook I'm constantly see people tell stories through my feed. One lie right after the other, so boring and lame. As a matter of fact why do I even have a facebook, oh I forgot it's entertaining......... Entertainment always comes in handy!

No one can really know the story behind the stories of the afterlife. It is beyond the realm of empiricism. Fear is indeed an important reason for the belief.

The idea of heaven really seems to be a fantastic one that is rooted in worldly thought. For instance, I know someone who pointed out that the streets are paved with gold - seems rather earthly really. The descriptions of heaven (something no one knows about) are a bit beyond the realm of truth.

I respect Hawking as a very intelligent man, but as Harlan Colt said, sometimes people can get too caught in the little details to really see the big picture. I don't think he knows anymore than anyone else whether or not there is an afterlife, or a creator.

I think deep down everyone knows heaven is a myth. Death is human's biggest fear and by having heaven as an option when one dies, it adds strength to religion. Common sense says that heaven and hell don't exist but fear is a strong tool.

I think Stephen Hawking should stick to astro and quantum physics. He has no expertise in this area. I am not saying that he may or may not be right, don't think anyone really knows.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
