How can my eating habits affect my child’s?

If you want your child to eat a healthy diet, you have to eat a healthy diet. As parents, we’re responsible for what our children eat -- at least as long as we’re in charge of their meals. And nothing has a more powerful influence on their eating habits than your eating habits.

If you don’t eat healthfully, neither will your kids! So make sure that you’re a great role model. If you run around all day and only grab a candy bar and diet soda, or your usual dinner is a bucket of fried chicken wings, what kind of message does that send?

Your kids are always watching you, so make sure you buy and eat food that’s good for them and you. Then don’t expect miracles. It might take a dozen attempts for your child to give a healthy but “different” new food a try, but don’t give up.
