How will you honor your Father this Fathers Day?

Since my Father, Father-in-law, and Husband have all gone to a better place, I can only get them flowers, but I make sure that they are honored every day of every year by keeping their memories alive. Do you do something special or memorable for the person that is no longer here? Asked by feisty_sugar 42 months ago Similar questions: honor Father Fathers Day Lifestyle > Relationships.

I'm collecting things for my daughter My father passed on in 1990, 15 years before the birth of my daughter. I like to hope he can see her from where he is, but she'll never meet him in this life. The best thing I can do for him is to remember him and pass along what I can to my own child, when she is old enough to understand such things.

I kept only a few of his things. He lived alone in his last years, and did not care much for possessions. I have an Epiphone acoustic guitar that he played beautifully.

I have his shaving mirror. I have an old Bolsey 35mm camera that he used to take most of our family photos when I was growing up, and I have the photos. My daughter might never meet her grandfather, but I mean for her to know him.

Over the past few weeks, I've been engaged in a project to locate his service records. My father served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and I contacted the National Archives to see if they could find his records. They did, and I am awaiting their arrival.

I will add these to the collection of memories I'm building for my daughter and the children she'll have herself someday. I had my child very late in life. Later this month, I will turn URL1 July, my daughter will be 3.

I hope that I will live to hold her first child, but I can't realistically expect my grandchildren to remember me. If, however, I can build memories for my daughter to pass along, they will know where they come from. Sources: Life .

2 My father passed two years ago. I think about him. But we didn't have a good relationship.

We at least were on speaking terms before he passed. Part of me doesn't know how I should feel. I think of him, remember him on Fathers day, but thats it.

I did love him and care for him.

3 Update: the National Archives sent my dad's service records. They arrived yesterday, a little late for Father's day, but soon enough for what I'm doing. I found out something I didn't know about my father.

For many years, he told a story about how he'd enlisted in the Navy during WWII rather than wait for the draft to take him. What I didn't know is when he did this. According to his records, he signed up on Jan.12, 1942, just a little more than a month after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Pearl Harbor was (and still is) a naval base, and my dad went into the branch of the service that had been hardest hit, not wasting much time about it. I always knew him to be a man who took his duties and obligations seriously. Now I know he was a hero as well..

4 Just ran across your question on Askville. My heart sunk to my feet. This is the first Father's Day that I have not put flowers on my dad's grave.

I remembered Mother's Day and Memorial Day but forgot Father's Day. I am sick about it. I also remembered my mom's and dad's anniversary on the 18th of June but don't put flowers out on that day.

I know my dad would understand. I remember taking him daisies to the hospital before he died. He said he loved to see the stems through the clear glass vase.

That has always stayed with me.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
