Life goes by so fast. How can we slow it down?

We can't really slow life down, but it helps to 'Stop and smell the roses'We should always try and appreciate what we have and do.

You cannot slow down life. What you can do is live a meaningful life - enjoy every minute without regret. Try to do your best on a daily basis - help those you may meet while walking through life.

Bring a smile to someone's face - help those who are less fortunate than yourself. Just try and live by the golden rule. Remember that life is nice, you have to know how to live it.

Interesting question :-)During the very unfortunate events of February 11th of this year it was said that the earthquake that shook Japan so violently caused the earth to shift ever so slightly on it’s axis. Scientist claim this caused the earth to rotate somewhat faster, thus shortening the length of the day by about 1.8 microseconds. Translation – in fact life is moving even faster, literally.

Of course, from the more important and practical side of the question, we generally feel this effect of life going by so fast because of how we occupying our time. It’s like when you are at leisure and having a great time and you say, “ wow, time sure flies when your having fun! “ or when your at work and having a long afternoon and you say ” it’s only 2:30, whew it feels like its 5:00 o’clock already ”In reality the time is still the same, it’s just our perception of it that’s different. So in terms of slowing down meaning to capture and enjoy every moment of life; I contend one of the very best ways is by having a positive attitude.

This allows us to extract all the life out of all the time we have and a feeling that life isn’t rushing by without our participation! Use that positive attitude to be grateful for your blessings, thankful for the love ones, kind toward others, having a sense of humor, giving and receiving forgiveness when mistakes happen and taking pleasure in every day you live on principle rather than just circumstances.

You could stare at a clock but that is no fun. A long walk on a beach will slow time for a while, at least your perception of time will slow. The sun, the sand the slow beating of the waves on the shore.

Leave some footprints in the sand!

Prioritize. If it is something of lasting value it has first priority. If it is necessary but not the urgent then second priority.

If it is nice but not necessary or "end of the world" type stuff, third priority. Example: 1st) Spend time with Family, 2nd) Work a little overtime for extra money, 3rd) Watch your favorite TV show.

I think we should slow down and enjoy all the beauty that we can. We need to take a break from the fast life and enjoy the colors in the flowers.

Well, in a spontaneous moment, I just looked at the clock on the PC and it says, 12:30pm. I still haven't done the laundry, vacuumed, straightened up, eaten (but my blood glucose was high so that is OK - for now), organized my office, researched a hub I want to write, reviewed my budget, made my shopping list, entered my med/mood chart info, responded to emails, unpacked my Amazon bulk purchases - tea, stevia, vitamins, stretched my tight fitting left shoe, or gotten yesterday's mail. But, I've been watching the orioles feed, the bees pollinate, the bird bath fountain spring upward in life, birds bathing, fence lizards on the wall, hummingbirds feeding on the native Calif plants, the breeze blowing the chimes playing a gentle sonnet, watching the butterflies dance, and exploring hubpages.

Since it is is my day OFF I don't wear a watch, leave the TV off, listen to music, which changes with mood, never answer the phone, and then drain my brain to emptiness. But, I will get the 1st paragraph done, yet will have a different mindset. I have learned for me it is the anxiety of 'what I have to do tomorrow' that interferes with my 'living today.' So, first I lose tomorrow.

Then things slow down. Then I set a reward, which for me will be writing a hub today. Sorry for this being so long, yet thanks to those who read it - smile.

AND, thanks, cloverleaf, for helping me become in the moment of NOW. Great question! I hope you 'slow it down' too allowing a moment to become endless.

Very good answers from everyone with which I definitely agree with, so I'll just make a suggestion instead so I don't have to repeat what others have shared. With your loved ones or really good friends, go out to somewhere nice and isolated - a cabin by the lake, secluded beach, campsite in the woods. Then you all leave your phones (select one for emergency purposes, just in case but turn it off), gadgets and other stuff, including your watches or anything that helps let you know the time, and leave it in the glove compartment of your vehicle.

After which, go and enjoy the day or the weekend!

There's no way to slow time down, just make the most of every moment :).

Talk regularly to insurance salesmen, also, if you're not a video gamer, ask a teenager about his favorite video game.

Move away from modern civilization and live off the land. No electricity, plumbing, internet, communication devices. And electronic gadgets.

Just find a safe shelter and keep basic hunting and cooking items.

Here's an off-beat answer:Surround yourself with the colour blue. The latest studies have shown that this colour makes humans perceive that time is slower than it should be.

You cannot slow down time, but you can take advantage of what time you have available to you. Take time to relax and do things you enjoy. Appreciate your moments and make the best of them.

Don't feel you always have to rush. Stop and smell the roses once in a while. Stop and look at the beauty around you.

Stop and spend time with your loved ones.

You don't. You simply try to find the beautiful things and moments in life, enjoy them, cherish them. That is what photo albums, videos, pictures, diaries and journals are all for.To hold and cherish memories long past.

You will never be able to slow life down, you can always speed it up, but that isn't always the best. Life is a complexity of itself, and the only advice I can give you is, enjoy life while you can, because when it's gone, there is no reset button.

I've recently noticed a phenomenon amongst people who are in those moments of mental limbo. Waiting for the lift, walking, exercising, riding the train, waiting in a restaurant for their food to arrive. All of them craving input like an addiction.

Smartphones, laptops, iPads, iPods and Kindles, to name a few, provide a hit which is as easy as pushing a button. The internet provides an inexhaustible source of content, that can be more than we can easily process, and denies our minds downtime. If you are one of these people, I recommend unplugging yourself for a bit.

Let your mind be at rest. Once the withdrawal symptoms fade, it can be better than a good night's sleep after running a marathon.

I think we need an 'off' day if possible. Off the phones, computers, get out...do something enjoyable with your loved ones once a week, month, etc. I think a break from our routines really allows us to enjoy the moment.

Yeah I agree with movie master time never stops, it just flies by! If you enjoy every moment and take time to admire what is around you and whatever you have, it eventually turns beautiful even with all the hardships and problems life is still so beautiful! Keep smiling.

In my next life, I want to be a snail. I'll travel around at my own pace and I'll never be homeless. :-).

Meditation and exercise. They appear to be the opposite but they both help to clear the mind by first focusing on the body. After your mind is clear, so to does the fast pace of life begin to slow.

By appreciating the moment. Each and every moment, each and every day. By living in the now, not in your plans for the future.

Meditate for a little while each day, you'd be amazed how much this can have the perception of slowing life down. Do less, the more we cram in to our lives the quicker it seems to pass by.

Live fully in the moment. Time cannot be slowed down, but to savor each moment independent of future outcomes can make the present time a more meaningful and gratifying experience.

Unplug. Take time and actually pay attention to whatever it is you are doing, whethr it be work, family, vacation. We are overstimulated with technology and have becme entitled to instant gratification.

Designate time to plug in and multitask, otherwise, simply focus on one thing at a time, and you will be surprised how life slows down for you to enjoy. Also, take some time every day to sit silently and breathe. No thoughts, just breathe.

I feel it is difficult to slow time down in a way... a lot of times it feels slow if you do not have enough to do.. or are bored... however, the key is to make the most of every day that passes by... do not procrastinate...just do what you feel like doing and do not leave it hanging till the next day... this way even if life goes by fast.. you will have no regrets!

Do less mind-numbing activities (tv, computer stuff, gaming). Take time to do nothing. Take time to think.

Take time to enjoy. Take time for relationships.

Just let life take its course...Also time is subjective and your view of it depends about your location and the way you live your life..if you live in underdeveloped countries life pace to many people is slow sometimes too slow..contrary to what people in developed countries feel about time..

Live life to the fullest, don't mind about how fast or how slow you are going.

Just enjoy life fullest and don,t care anything. Feel as if you are going to die today. See the life as rainbow feel its colours.

Feel all the elements of live with love.

What you wait is so long and sometimes you think that the day is slow but what you passed is so fast that we can even think of what had happened with your life....Hhahah make some special memories for your rest of life before it ends.

Life evolves in a meteoric pace. Maybe, the best way to feel that it slows down is to take things easy. Learn to enjoy every moment.

I guess, there is no other way to slow down life than to live life to the fullest. Life is too short! We need to enjoy every minute of our life.

If you are at work then you will feel that life is so slow especially when you are under pressured.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
