Ok, I have ripped up my carpet and painted over the wood with paint, is that going to get rid of the cat urine smell?

Paint will not necessarily prevent the uric acid odor from seeping past its coating into the air. You might need to sand the wood down below the level the urine had seeped into, which might be rather deep since animals tend to always mark the same area. Folks have needed to remove and replace planks.

Or, let it go with time.

Nope, you have to sand the floor and re stain it.

I would have wet the area with one of those odor-removing enzymes, available at pet stores by the gallon-- they work really well. I've also used bleach to burn out those odors.

I agree with the other suggestions for treating or replacing the wood planks. I would also use an odor-reducing kilz, rather than regular paint. Good luck!

I used Zissner 123 primer to deal with a similar situation, and it has held up well. Make sure it is a good solid coat.

I resently ripped up a carpet from a bedroom because the rug, plywood floor were saturated with dog urine. I heavly sprayed Simple solution ( an enzym odor killer) and it bubbled up. I think thats good.So far I don't smell anything......more to come .
