With a random topic. Now that I think of it, perhaps the same person is going through and asking where can I get coupons for...for every topic.So...if I create a topic entitled "tickets to the Palin death turkey show," then this person is going to ask "Where can I get coupons for tickets to the Palin turkey show...WHACK! Those questions come from Amazon Mechanical Turk. It seems you are referring to the following question: askville.amazon.com/AnswerViewer.do?requ... This is called a "bonus question". Notice that there is no asker.

The "asker" has an orange avatar, but it does not have a nickname. It says: Bonus Question right under the topics. The question has not been asked by a real Askviller.

These questions are generated at Amazon Mechanical Turk (aka Mturk) by mturk wrokers. Askville Team automatically transfers them to Askville. mturk.com/mturk/welcome Mturk is a website owned by Amazon.

If you go to mturk. Com and in the search box search for "Ask a Question" you can find HITs (Human Intelligence Tasks) that produce these bonus questions. Amazon provides people some keywords and an instruction and those people are asked to use those keywords and ask a question for 3 or 4 cents per question.

Here is an example: Ask a Question Instructions: Read the keywords View the related articles Ask an interesting* question in context of at least one of the articles, using the keywords plus 3 other unique words. Please note: Spelling and grammar will be audited and submissions with errors will be rejected. (You will not be penalized for any existing spelling errors in the keywords.) Using at least 3 of these keywords: Verizon Alltel assets eyed http://www.mturk.com/mturk/preview?groupId=6ZGZ214K2WCZ6JZ9JX3Z (This link might not work if when you are reading this answer the HIT expires.

) So, in the example that you have given, I would guess "Obama give extra push climate" has been a keyword and it appears that the keywords comes from the following article. Obama to give extra push to climate talks: U.N.Official http://uk.reuters.com/article/burningIssues/idUKTRE50D21Z20090114 Nobody knows for sure how Askville gets those "keywords" but it appears that keywords come from Google News and some other certain websites. We, as Askvillers, also don’t know what the purpose of those bonus questions is.

But it is widely believed that Askville is basically trying to get to the top hits in Google so that it can attract more visitors and earns money by advertizement. A large number of bonus questions are listed under topic "Askville Bonus" that can be found from the following link: http://askville.amazon.com/askville-bonus/Topic.do?tag=askville+bonus All bonus questions are listed under Bonus Tab that can be accessed via the following link: http://askville.amazon.com/RequestsByFilter.do?page=1&filter=Bonus You can actually count the number of those questions and there is over 3 million bonus questions! Hope this clears things up for you.

Oh, and welcome to Askville! :) .
