What do you prefer -- dealing with a crisis or dealing with day-to-day rut?

Crises definitely can add an aire of excitement - a change to the doldrum of day-to-day mundane. (Although, in my house, days are seldom boring. ).

Not sure. I think the day to day doldrums can become crisis if it lulls one into a state of complacency or depression.

To answer your question - I think the endorphin rush of crisis-resolution is more stimulating than administrating day-to-day routine. But, I'd rather be enjoying my life as-is today than face, oh say, a nuclear attack, bankruptcy, or a famine. :).

My answer to your first question is neither and both.

We already know the choices, you have three.

The "How" you lead, follow or get out of the way are also your choice, and those choices will define you and who and what you become.

I choose all three...........in varying measure.

I lead when I should, when I am the best to lead.

I follow when I am sure they are deserving of my trust and have earned my respect for their leadership and decision making abilities.

Finally, when I am not qualified or unable to decide, I get out of the way... until I am.

I perfer the day to day rut not so much because it does not offer me a challenge but because it gives me the reassure that things are being handled which normally would cause a crisis. Preventative management is what we want to achieve. I advise my people to determine what normal operations look like and from that basis start managing by exceptions to be sure that all functions conform near or on centerlline.

When we move to crisis move it is because we failed to see the indicators or monitor the system properly. Crisis management is a function of managing behind the curve of occurrence...no one wants to be there. WB.

Well since I personally and ironically have had a nightmare on a day to day basis ( I was diagnosed with Parasomnia a night terror disease that cannot be treated only covered up with medication). I would choose a crisis because a day to day rut is really something that can drive you into a deep depression that you see yourself never getting out of. With a single crisis you are able to evaluate and figure out a way to get through it.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
