What percentage of the shopping you do for the holidays, Christmas, Hannukah, etc. do you actually do for you?

The holiday season is in full swing, and with that said everyone (or well most) are out shopping and spending much more than normal. That said, excluding everyday purchases you'd normally make in a month (Groceries, food, gas, typical monthly expenses) how much do you tend to spend for you this month? I mean the sales are so great sometimes it's hard not to buy something for you.

Anyone spend more on them than they do for others? I know I typically spend quite a bit on myself this month (though still more on others by quite a bit). Ts year's been different though mainly because I already spent far too much from Jan-Nov....Thanks.

Definitely more than usual. You are right in that I sometimes find the holiday deals to good to pass up. I usually end up buying myself lots of clothing at the unbeatable prices.

This year, I did do something different though. I went shopping with my mom and the unbeatable deals that we couldn't pass up, we ended up buying for each other. Although our Christmas gifts to each other aren't going to be a surprise this year, we know that the other person will like it and that it fits!

No returning gifts the day after Christmas for us! .

About half and half... one for them one for me, lol... It might be more though; since I make jewelry and glass, I often make presents for people like my hairdresser, dog groomer and some of my waiter staff (I own a catering biz...) I try to make jewelry to give to the battered women's shelter here, though I don't always get it done in TIME for christmas... so I'm probably buying more for me! We also make a lot of cookies and candy for friends and colleagues, which always goes over well and is much easier to "pick out". No one, almost, says no to a big beautiful box of homemade cookies; fruitcake, well, that's different!

I tend not to do a lot of shopping; I've gotten very pragmatic about what I do and do not need; I don't need a fifth pair of black pumps that are slightly different from the other four. I don't need more christmas decor or dishes or makeup (shop at home first, lol....) Having this attitude all year long makes me feel not so guilty when I actually do need something (like clothes for this new job....) I know a lot of you (and me too) give donations to organizations like Unicef, Heifer, Teva, etc; why don't you make a donation for yourself too this year! And when you shop online, shop through igive.com or wfuv.Org (the wonderful fordham folk station that you can stream online from all over the world).

Happy everything! Celia .

None When the kids were teens, I made a rule that THEY 'encourage' me to follow to this day. From Thanksgiving to Christmas you are not allowed to buy anything for yourself. Mom's are hard to buy for, especially, so I am to inform someone in the family about something I thought was 'neat,' so they will have a chance to buy me something I want!

It's fun, although I'm not sure I like 'dropping hints. ' Still, it's better for them, I guess, to know what I would like or not like! The kids seem to have made a hobby out of milking me for information throughout the year, though, which is funny.

Even when my brand-new daughter-in-law and son were opening their wedding gifts this past year, I remarked on the silicone baking pans and that I would love to try some sometime. Evidently the girl friend of the bride's who was writing down the list of gifts and what was from whom made some kind of note on the list about my comment. Guess what I got for our early Christmas (we do the family celebration at Thanksgiving so that the kids don't have to try to juggle between both sides of the family at Christmases when they are married) -- FOUR gorgeous bread 'pans.' I have used them and I do like them!

They are larger than my old bread pans, so I must accomodate for that now, but they bake quite evenly and cutting the bread later was quite easy (you all needed to know that, right? ). At any rate, the answer to the question is 'none.

' By decree of the kids now, enforcing our old family rule from when they were younger! .

Not as much as I'd like I typically end up grabbing a few things on special for myself, but with a pretty tight budget there isn't alot of room to just pick things up because I want them.

40% You must love and take care of yourself first, before you can do a good job of caring for others.

Is everybody ready for the Holidays?....................

Merry CHRISTmas and Happy Holidays to each and everyone.....

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
