What's hair keratin?

Keratin is a very strong protein that is found in skin, hair, nails, hooves, horns, and teeth. Depending on the structure of the particular keratin and the amino acids that make up Keratin, Keratin can be hard like nails, or soft like hair. Though the top layer of Keratin on the hair and nails is dead, taking care of the top layer will help protect the layer of Keratin underneath that is still alive.

If your hair is dull, dry and/or flaky, there are keratin treatments such as Complex Brazilian Keratin Treatment by Cochochoco among others. For nails, it's important to keep your nails nourished and covered with a strong clear nail polish coat to protect the keratin underneath. It might be smart to talk to your hairdresser or a tail technician about further Keratin products that will help.
