What's the best non-lethal way to get rid of stray cats?

Got lots of feral cats here in the general area. They get onto the porch, murdered my wife's orchids, left "apples" for us, marked up my fence too. I loathe them and want them gone short of killin', but I may have to do that if no other option presents itself.

Not really into the whole trap and cart down to humane society either. Any ideas? Asked by askal 57 months ago Similar questions: non lethal rid stray cats Pets > Cats.

Use tea-leaves. 1. There are many herbs that cats don’t like to be around, including lavender, rue, geranium, absinthe, and lemon-thyme.

Also, a German professional gardener, Dieter Stegmaier of Essingen, has created a hybrid so repulsive to cats, they stay a yard away from it. It smells like schnapps to us, and is actually a pretty and hardy plant with blue flowers that bloom throughout most of the summer. Its Latin name is Coleus canin.

You can order it through various mailorder services.2. This mixture is easy to make and can be used anywhere you want to repel cats (or groundhogs, for that matter):2 parts cayenne pepper3 parts dry mustard5 parts flourSimply mix together and sprinkle.3. Use large flat river stones in your garden beds to make the soil less diggable, and so less attractive to cats.

Besides, river stones are pretty. You can also use them in houseplant pots to keep the furry little darlings out of those.4. Cats don’t like tea leaves, so empty your used ones onto the garden soil.5.

You could also try using a sprinkler that is activated by a motion-sensor. All it takes is a time or two of getting dowsed with water to deter any cat. It can work for intruders, too.

1 Mithrandir, regarding your answer "use tea-leaves. ": Wow! That was a host of useful information.

I had heard references to the cayenne pepper, but not as part of the particular mix you reported. We'll try the tea leaves as well, on the gravel which borders our porch (condo landscaping). Thanks!

2 contact your local no-kill animal shelter..search google for no kill animal shelter or ferrel cat program and your city/state. They will relocate the animals to another "colony" using the TNR method (trap, neuter, release). That way you are happy and the cats can live somewhere else (happy).

3 good news is that the cats haven't been around my condo for a while now, but I suspect that is due to us removing the orchids (nothing to play with). Likewise, I fear if we buy new ones the cats will return. As for the local solution, the humane society doesn't have resources to actually come out and move a colony; they rely on regular folks to do all that legwork while leave the colonies in place.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
