I know I'm depressed, and suffer from insomnia. It's a real problem, cause my husband is an early morning person, and he will be retiring next June. I dread it.

We will probably kill each other. Anyhow, I'm looking at some old war movie, but I'm not really paying attention. Pretty soon the crickets will stop chirping, and the birds will start singing.

I hate this. I just can't sleep. Even when I want to!

What are you doing? Asked by Kar* 39 months ago Similar questions: awake sleep Health > Conditions & Diseases.

Well, I'm awake, but I'm not "still awake. " I wake up at 4 AM regardless. I'm the early-morning person in my relationship.

The crickets are chirping here, too, in SE PA, and the night breeze is chilly. The weather really feels like fall. SO I'm UP.

I've picked out what I'm going to wear, and I'll play on Askville for an hour or so, go take my bath, then get ready for work. About 6:15 or so, I'll take our two dogs for what we call the "poop stroll," bring them back in, then head for work. I leave the house at 6:40 to make sure I get to work on time--I actually start at 8, but I want to have "problem-solving time" if something interferes with the commute.

I'm sorry to hear you have such trouble sleeping. I have some understanding of what that's like, but only from the occasional white night. Once I wake up, THAT'S IT.

I don't go BACK to sleep. 1 AM? I"m up.2?

Wide awake. 3? Doesn't matter.

Once I open my eyes, I might as well just give it up and DO something. SO I"ll turn on my light and read for a while, and stress about whether I'll be able to stay awake at work--sitting at that desk, reading or writing technical materials... I could crawl under my desk and sleep for hours, it feels like, sometimes. But they do frown on that!

While I certainly wouldn't like it from the "awake half the night" side, I love it from the "just got up" side. When I wake up at 4 normally, though, it's fine. This very early morning time is MY time.No one else is up.

The house is dark and quiet (even the dogs are sleeping). I shft my 2 hours of leisure back and forth between playing on askville and whatever book I'm reading. No TV, no street noise... Wish I could provide you with a fool-proof way to induce a healthjy, normal sleep for you! The whole WORLD seems better when you're really rested, I know, and there's a REASON sleep-deprivation is used as torture.

It IS torture! So, for what it's worth, you have my sympathy and thoughts, Kar. Hang in there.

EVERYONE has a method, of course! Except Stephen King.

He's got a STORY. And as I recall, it did NOT put me to sleep.

Kar, you may be sick of hearing from me but... I had the same insomnia problem some years ago. It is horrendous, horrible, and so tiring not to be able to sleep the whole night long. And I mean the whole night without a wink.

I suffered silently back then. After a long time struggling with this, I saw a doctor and he gave me antidepressants (Lexapro) and a pill named Doxepin which I take before bedtime. It did the trick for me and I am forever thankful.

But, I have to say this. I believe you said you were in your 50s. That's how old I was and I was also struggling with many issues.

I was anxious, depressed, and didn't know what to do. I believe that was why I couldn't sleep. My mind was prodding me to act, to change.

I didn't realize this at the time though. It is only with hindsight that I am able to say this. I encourage you to reach out and find a good therapist - someone you can really talk to.

I believe your body is sending you a message as mine was. It's hard to hear this and I apologize if I am coming on too strong. It was hard for me too but I have never regretted getting help..

I could not sleep for 18 years.. I just am trying Ambien.. It is calming me down in the night and day. When I raise the oxygen in my brain with Zinc, Potassium or other vitamins and (Celiac diet, LDN), progesterone... I sleep better. I have watched the sun come up every morning and watched the clock all night.

Best wishes.

I have the same proplem with sleeping. Even as a child, I had problems sleeping. I didn't know then, I had Crohn's disease.

I've since developed Fibromyalgia. The pain sometimes won't let me sleep. You're right , I hear the crickets and the birds singing, and still no sleep.

The doctor did give me something, that works at times, and I've gotten a little more sleep lately. It is so easy to get depressed, which I do sometimes, but for the most part, I pretend I have no pain, and that works a lot for me. People seeing me would never guess, I was in pain, because I'm always smiling.

I love to smile. You and hubby, have my prayers. Please try not to kill each other.

You especially have my prayers. God Bless You. I'm not a morning person and I WANTED to sleep in Today's one of my very few days off, and I was excited because the first thing I have to do today is take the cat to the vet's, and that's not until 10:20. I could sleep in! I have a killer cold, and I could really use the extra sleep- it went from a stuffy nose to coughing to being unable to breathe at all in the last 4 days, and today the aches have set in.

Tomorrow will be a long day at work, and if I could have slept in this morning it might have helped me kick this cold. The cat had other ideas. First he wanted to snuggle. At 6am.

Usualy I'll give him some kisses and get him situated next to me and eventually he stops rubbing up against my face and waking me up. But then he wanted to play. I tossed him off the bed a few times until he stopped biting me and started biting things in my room, including my computer!

I finally got up to feed him, and at this point it's too late to try and go back to sleep. Although, of course, now he's curle up at the foot of my bed doing nothing. I'll have to try and take a nap later today, but with so much housework that needs to be done, I'll feel guilty sleeping again.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
