Well, when I had space for a garden, I grew tomatos, carrots, pole beans, corn, and pumpkins. It's fun for the kids to pick a pumpkin and write their name on it, and then cut it out for Halloween! .
Yumm! Carrots, corns, pumpkins... great idea! Thanks!
Kids would love them! Should I worry about bugs might destroy them? Or they won't?
Any suggestion? Foodtable 1 month ago .
I think you will be more bothered by rabbits - so you need to put up a fence. Japanese beetles are a problem in some areas, but I have found that planting a few marigolds near the garden keeps the beetles off your veggies.
Thanks, Turbo.. I'll research about that one... figure it out what to do. Thanks! Foodtable 1 month ago .
My parents typically have cucumbers, lettuce, cabbage, onions, beans, peas, beets, carrots, corn, squash (winter and summer varieties) potatoes, and a few odd veggies. (besides the tomatoes and strawberries mentioned) keep in mind that your growing season will dictate what you can successfully grow.
Sound yummy! Thanks! What you do when you have so much left over... freeze them for few months?

My mother often makes "garden soup" with the culls, and freezes it. We still have potatoes, winter squash, and carrots stored; and usually would have onions, but we didn't have a long enough season for them to mature. We also lost most of the corn crop; although we don't usually get enough surplus of that to specifically store.
Most vegetables have their own natural predators - my mother sticks mostly to slug bait, barriers to protect the leaf vegetables, and the philosophy that they don't eat much. But they now have a 14 foot high elk fence around the garden, and the blueberries and strawberries have netting to keep the birds out of them.
Interesting... I want to try out with few veggies to start and see how they go. Thanks for great information... garden soup sound delicious and can freeze them... great idea! Thanks!

Find a local independent garden center and talk with the owners; they will be able to give you great advice.
Just don't use arsenic laced timbers to put around the garden.
