Do raccoons make good pets?

My instincts say 'no', but then I've never considered them pets as such. Raccoons are really wild animals, that is, they belong in the wilds. Most animals are quite harmless when newborn and for a time after that but once they become mature it's time to set them free.

I like to think of them as close family busybodies! They can also carry certain diseases when in the wilds so one needs to be careful when coming in contact with them. People have odd ideas about what makes a nice pet so best to leave it up to the individual what they decide on.

As a licenced trapper in N.Y. I can tell you that raccoons are wild animals who, at least on the East Coast, are prone to rabies. (A disease that is 100% fatal to humans, if left untreated! ) There are also other human disease factors related to racoon feces and urine.

Based on these factors, I would never reccomend a Raccoon as a pet.

Alas, no They have certain instincts which do not make them reliable or safe pets in a house-for example, sneaking up on their prey to 'dagger them' in the back of the neck with their upper fangs. My dad and his friend tried to raise 2 orphaned ones, a boy and a girl, by hand, from infancy, and they were STILL like this. Attacked his parish priest once, and bit dad's hands down to the bone on more than one occasion.

They also have special nutritional needs which commercial pet food and homecooking still can't quite cater for. My dad had one for 12 years and it eventually just went into a nutritional decline, like starvation no matter how much he ate. They do look adorable and cuddly, but it is never a good idea to try to make any wild animal into a pet.

They are also mean, and will attack you if they feel threatened. Please, do not get one as a pet. They are meant to be wild, not caged as housepets.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
