What you describe is a user from a edu domain finding your site thru google, not a link.

No one has to actually click on the link for it to count as a backlink. Backlinks are simply links from other sites to yours. So if there is a link to your page or hub from a page on another site, and that page is indexed by the search engines, it counts as a backlink.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
