It is not "safe" to carry a baby at 15 yrs old period. It's not. Research it.
It puts her in the "high risk" category before you even get into her OTHER health issues. She is at a very high risk for pre-eclampsia JUST due to age alone. Not to mention she hasn't reached her full adult height, her growth plates aren't even fused, etc, etc. So there are a lot of risks, no doubt.
Being underweight is not good, but even at normal weight, pregnancy at that age has many more potential risks than people seem to realize. Are you SURE her weight is *that* low? I got to almost that weight due to a thyroid issue & am about the same height & I looked like a walking skeleton, no joke.
I thought for sure I was seriously ill (and I am not usually heavy - but there is a HUGE difference between 100lbs & 81 lbs - HUGE). My period stopped. Is she SURE she is pregnant at all & that her period hasn't' just stopped due ot being too thin?
That happens you know. If you get too thin your hormones get all whacked out & your cycle gets off. Her BMI is 14.3. Anything below a 16 can cause your period to stop since at that point it may not be in your body's best interest to carry a baby.
If she hasn't seen a Dr, don't be certain she even IS pregnant, since it is common to especially young women to go many months when underweight with no period at all & if you are not well enough to have a cycle, then you aren't ovulating either. If she IS confirmed to be pregnant she needs to be closely monitored medically & put on weight. She risks her health & the baby's health by being that age & too thin.
Preeclampsia can cause very serious consequences for the mother & baby & it is a threat up to a month or so after birth even. Just want to clarify for yesmaam - 4'10" & 76lbs is a LOT closer to healthy than this poster is listing. THAT BMI is 15.9. If you read my post anything below a 16 CAN make your period stop - but you would have been very near 16, in fact if you weighed 76 1/4lb you would be at 16.
She is 14.3 - that is far scarier. 1 1/2 pts makes a huge difference when you are talking THIS thin. That is either a health issue or a eating disorder when you are that thin.
There is no way to be "healthy" and be that weight "naturally" at that height - that is something that is either undiagnosed (such as a thyroid issue), not well controlled (such as thyroid) OR from an external source like starvation or purging or laxatives.....period....and NONE of those are healthy for pregnancy anyway. I know you want to be sweet - but this situation is not like yours. This weight is much more severe.
I am petite too & very thin, but this is something more than that.
15yrs old is not safe. But her size isn't. She's bigger than I was when I had my first.
I was 4'10" and 75lbs. Way underweight. She is quite underweight though.
I'm 4'10" and 90lbs, my doctor just told me to stop losing weight. I should be between 87 and 92 for my height. I'm 30 with 3 kids so 90lbs is a good weight for me.
She should be at least 100lbs at her height. If she is already pregnant then just make sure she gets a good high risk OB. It may be dangerous but it was a lot more dangerous a decade ago.
Teenagers have healthy babies all the time. However if she isn't already pregnant then tell her not to.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
