My cat is peeing and pooping outside the litter box and it has been a problem since I got married 3 years ago, any ideas?

My cat is peeing and pooping outside the litter box and it has been a problem since I got married 3 years ago, any ideas He poops outside the litter box, usually with in 4 feet of the box almost every morning. He has peeped outside the litter box several times, by that I mean right next to it. He did have one problem urinating on an area rug too.

All his bad habits started after I got married 3 years and 7 months ago. I have had him in several times because he suffered blockage almost 6 years ago and had surgery for it. He was on special dry food for awhile until this summer when the vet said I should use this diet food because he is overweight at 17lbs they want him at 14-15.

I am getting pretty frustrated with him because his litter is usually clean when this happens, he has not had UTI any other time he has done this, and I am wracking my brain to find out whats causing the attitude. One vet did tell me it was an attitude problem 2 years ago, but why? Anyone got any suggestions, I am pretty frustrated.

Fear not Having 6 cats, I have all kinds of issues....cats are like people...only they cannot tell you. How old is? My eldest female, she was about 11 when this began, but it can happen at any age, developed a "behavioral problem" thats what the vet called it, I called it..."she went insane........& ^%$# me off"....she took a poop & pee in my brand new rcliner, my sofa, my love seat, the sofa bed, and on my 500$ feather bed.

I have since become the resident expert in how to remove Urine & feces from fabric.......OMG...if she wasn't my baby, I would have strangled her.....she wasn't sick......I have SIX(6) cat boxes....they all get attention....so &^%$ the (*&^%. Took her to the vet, she was totally healthy.....but he thought she had "behavioral isuues"..so he prexcribed prozac 5 mg. I laughed?

I looked it up on goggle & sure enough its one of the MOST prescibed AD for cats and dogs.. DO NOT BUY IT FROM YOUR VET! They will rip you off..its nuts! Floxetine is the generic........my vet wanted 38$ per month.....so I went to the same Canadian pharmacy I get my drugs at......and they had tablets(Prozac is VERY HTF in pill form...and it ONLY comes in 10mg...so it needs to be broken in half) 41$ with shipping for 100 pills(broken in half thats 200) what a difference money wise.

Then I ended up joining WALGREENS Pharmacy Club..because they let you put your cat on the plan as a family member....and I was able to get a 90 days upply of 10 mg Floxotine(broken a half 180 day supply) for 12.99 and its right up the street........the PROZAC made all the difference in the world...within a month, she was back to normal.......no "accidents' since and its been 3 years......so it does work..... I also feed my cats ONLY gluten & sugar free food "KAZEN-FLOGEN" GOLD....... Try not to get too frustrated, I know its hard...and trust is a big issue....I had to replace ALL the furniture..I managed to get the chair clean(expert in poo & pee remember) but I spent over 2,000 on new furniture & even then I was still woriied so I purchased room spearators....realluy nice french style doors....so she would have NO access to that room....I didn't need it...because the anti-depressants work great! .

Cats are notoriously territorial and can get jealous when they feel their owner has been taken away from them. An addition of a new person in a household can feel threatening to a cat. Have you made sure to spend extra time with your feline so that it does not feel left out?

Make sure that your spouse also spends time petting and grooming your cat to help create a bond between the two. Also be sure that you are throughly removing the urine and stool from your carpet. Use an enzyme based cleaner to remove stains.

If not, then your cat will just continue to go to use the spot over and over. You can also try spaying the old spots with a cat repellant spray like Feliway or bitter citrus to prevent your cat's return. Sources: all-about-cute-kittens.com/litter-box-pr... .

1 Move the litter box to where he pees/poops....I give Iams Natural solutions to my cats..it helps them and tuna sometimes. Maybe he needs a another cat to keep him company due to loneliness. Negative attention is still attention...although it could be health issues too.

Maybe the cats wants your attention...not share it with the husband.

2 Weird thing is lately when he poops on the carpet its when I am in the room, he did it with the urinating too this last time. Most of the time when he poops on the carpet its sometime overnight, so we wake up to a nice present in the room with the litter. We have his litter box in a decent sized closet, with no hood and the door is open.

We thought about getting another cat for him but hes kinda selfish. Add on to that the fact that my wife is pregnant so adding another member to the family is not the best option.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
