Prenatal Vitamins?

Seem to be making me feel ill. I started taking flintstone chewables because I was told that was acceptable. But do I have to chew them?

Can I just swallow? I mean they dissolve in my stomache anyway right? Asked by NubianGoddess 54 months ago Similar questions: Prenatal Vitamins Health > Reproduction.

I'd be sure to chew them. Was it your doctor who told you Flintstones vitamins were ok? Makes me nervous because one of the main vitamins you need is Folic Acid (VERY important for fetal development), and I'm not so sure Flintstones have enough loaded into each one.

If your doc gave the ok, then no worries. But if not, I hope you'll run it past your doc ASAP. Anyway, assuming Flintstones vitamins are the way to go for you, if they are labeled as "chewables" I would definitely chew them and not just swallow.

They'll dissolve somewhat, but you may not get the full effect without breaking them up first - especially since that's how they're designed to work. And I'm sure you don't want to take any chances on shortchanging your growing little one! As for standard prenatal vitamins, it's a common side effect to upset your stomach.

That's why you're advised to take the vitamin an hour or so after you eat...enough time so that the vitamin won't just be absorbed by a full stomach, but you'll still have some food in there to keep you from feeling ill. If you try again with these valuable vitamins, be sure to time it right after meals. And maybe pop a few saltine crackers right afterward.

I know the timing and inconvenience can be quite a pain (especially when you're so exhausted! ), but it's soooooo worth it for your baby. Good luck and congrats again!.

Had this problem too... I would suggest taking them at bedtime. I know they say take with food, but that never helped me. I still felt sick to my stomach.

I have to take my regular multi-vitamins the same way now too. It also helps to remember to take them if you do it with your bedtime routine! Good luck!.

Prenatals MUCH better than Flintstones I totally understand not wanting to do anything to cause more nausea than you have in early pregnancy. However, I would change back to whatever form of prenatal vitamins (PNV's) you can tolerate the best for the sake of you the health of both you & your child. I don't have anything against Flintstones - I have taken them myself!

As a children's vitamin, though, they have some of the same nutrients that you find in PNV's, but the amounts are often very different. For example, pregnant women need much more folic acid than either children of adults. Inadequate amounts of Folic Acid are known to cause several birth defects.

Most OB/GYN's carry samples of PNV's. I'm guessing that if you call & tell them the problem you're having they would probably give you some samples of different kinds to see what you can tolerate the best without getting nauseous. There are many, many kinds of vitamins out there today.

Usually just because one PNV makes you nauseous doesn't mean they all will, you just need to find the brand that's right for you. When I was pregnant with my daughter I took Cal-nate vitamins - this is a prescription prenatal vitamin, but it's the generic for Citracal PNV's. Since it's generic, it was cheaper, which is nice.

They had a vanilla coating on them, which made them a lot easier to handle. I took one over-the counter one from Kroger (don't remember the name but it had a kangaroo on it) that said it was almond flavor, but they were so gross. I tried taking them again after I had her, & they still made me nauseous even without being pregnant & having morning sickness!

Oh - on chewable vitamins: yes they will dissolve in your stomach, but if you don't chew them they may not dissolve completely, which means you risk both not getting the full amount of nutrients in your vitamins and having Flintstone poop. I know, gross, but true. If you do choose to continue with the Flintstones, at least ell your Dr so they can let you know if you need to be taking 2 or if you need to take an additional folic acid supplement.

Sorry this was so long, but hope it helps! :) .

1 Make sure you're following the instructions on the label, especially regarding taking with food. If it's not that simple, talk to your doctor.

Vitamin A contains in Prenatal Vitamins. Harmful?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
