1) I think image stabilization is important in any camera owrk with autofocus lenses. Certainly when you're using faster f-stops, with a zoom, IS will help you get a better action picture.
You need to zoom for sports generally because you are not on the field or close to the action. For this purpose the greater the focal lenght you can go to the more magnification so 85mm is okay... 200mm is better... 300mm is even better. But you will need a tripod to hold the camera steady at those long focal lenghts.
The aperature or f-stop... the lower the number the more apearture or light gathering ability the lens will have so the lower on this number the better. You can't be there with a flash... you have to rely on ambient light... so f/1.8 is excellent... more than you need. F/2.8 is good for most purposes.
You will pay a permium for f/1.8.
Unless your action sport is people playing cards at a table, you'll need a huge telephoto such as a 300, 400 or 500mm lens with a 2.8 lens. They tend to be a bit pricey. An 85mm lens is a PORTRAIT lens.
Take a look at the huge lenses that professional photographers have at sporting events. Even with a 2.8 lens you'll probably need to up the ISO. A FX camera will allow you take pictures at much high ISO values with minimum digital noise. It's a slippery slope.
Bigger heavier cameras and lenses == smaller, lighter wallets. I have a 70-200mm 2.8 lens with vibration reduction. It weighs a ton and cost a fortune and still isn't big enough for sporting events.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
