Parade of Lights & Sparkle of Christmas The Parade of Lights is a wonderful parade, where everyone participating wears lights...and do they sparkle! This parade is usually held just after Thanksgiving in our historic Gaffer District. The shops stay open late & the holiday spirit is very strong.

Sparkle of Christmas is always held the first Saturday of December, rain/snow/shine/wind...cold...whatever the weather, we have our Sparkle. For this event, they close down storic Market Street (Gaffer District) and people can wander in and out of the shops, visit the vendors that come for Sparkle (great time to buy those holiday gifts), listen to carrolers, donate to the SA or Habitat for Humanity, watch the Living Nativity....so much to do. People of all ages come for lots of fun!

We have a beautiful night parade. We have a festival of lights on our Main Street that is really beautiful. All the parade entries are lit with white Christmas lights, so it is incredibly beautiful.

Lots of the stores give out things like candy canes or hot apple cider. Of course, Santa is at the end and kids can talk to him afterwards. We don't have A Christmas Carol or A Charlie Brown Christmas, but our high school always sponsors a visiting performance of The Nutcracker ballet..

Santa, caroling and cookies For as long as I can remember Santa arrives on the local train. In the circle by the train station lots and lots of young children wait to greet him. When Santa gets off the train there is a roar of excitement.

He brings candy and coloring books to give the children. After the greeting a fire truck comes to pick up Santa and whisks him around town before he has to go back home. Another tradition is children in our parish school go caroling to the homes of elderly who are homebound and they bring cookies to them.

Happy Christmas! .

1 We have the annual christmas on the plaza. Santa Claus shows up at night in front of city hall in an antique fire truck and throws candy canes out to all the kids. City hall is lit up with christmas lights.

All the shops around the plaza stay open late and hand out hot cider or cocoa and roasted chestnuts. I live in a small community where everyone knows everyone and it's nice to look around you and see people you know from town out and about with their families. Here is a photo, unfortunately it's not lit up but this is what it looks like in the day time. It's beautiful at night...family.webshots.com/photo/15376213950509... .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
