Why are Askville Bonus questions that have nothing to do with science found in the Science topic area?

Tonight's latest Askville Bonus questions that are on the Science topic are about:- the Apple Psystar lawsuit (3 questions)- Microsoft petitioning Congress about the Yahoo/Google deal (3)- Intel releasing the Centrino chip (3)- Various stocks. (3+)These should not be in the Science section, they should be in Business, Legal, Wallstreet, Government, etc.Okay, so this issue isn't really that big a deal, just an annoyance or pet peeve, but I'm going to start voting to remove these mis-categorized questions. Will anyone join me?

Science Topic Bonus Questions First of all--no need to spend gold on going anonymous when you posted the same sort of comment on a bunch of the questions today! LOL! (we know who you are!) Secondly, voting to remove them won't let Askville know what the problem is so that they can fix it; they have no idea from the vote what the problem is.

And from some tests we ran here, we're really not sure that they ever remove a question, anyway. Someone has apparently disconnected the buzzer to the Askville team, we discovered after keeping track of how many people reported a question for removal. Nothing happened to the question and last time I looked it was up to 18 reports.

So, I wouldn't waste my time voting for a question to be removed. But you do have a legitimate beef about the improper topic selection on some questions. While I know it makes you feel better to add the comments to the questions, it really doesn't change a thing to do that.

In fact, that actually makes it worse as when you answer or comment on a Bonus Question it then drops down into the regular question area and we all get too see them. And that makes certain Askvillers very cranky...! I'm assuming that the topics are determined by a computer program, not a human. I would guess the topics are selected based on the keywords given to the question asker in MTurk.

The askers do not topic their own questions, it's done for them with absolutely no input from them. They are machine generated. So, the only way to make them do something different to those topics choices is to submit feedback to Askville. At the bottom of every page is a "submit feedback" button.

Use it! There are a zillion bonus questions out there...I'm sure that they don't have time or the staff to go through them all and notice your comments about improper topics for them. So, basically, complaining to us, other Askvillers like yourself, doesn't do squat!

LOL! Of course, reporting it as feedback might not do squat, either, but at least you are getting the information in the general vicinity of someone who can do something about it. Good luck with your endeavor.

The only other option is to ignore it..

1 I'd join you, but I've got the alpha lab turned off.

2 Report them for topic abuse. Askville won't respond to the reports, but at least it will create work for them. A lot of us were complaining that the topics assigned to boneless questions were as inane as the questions themselves, so they promised us that "appropriate" topics would be added to most questions.

I think they took a handful of top-level topics, including Science, and made those available to the Turkers who write these things. I still don't think they can assign topics at will. Some technology questions might fall under the Science umbrella, but I think they're just picking from a short list.

I usually keep the BQs turned off (but have the Alpha Labs enabled), and I still see them in the Watchlists.

Um, I just don't know what you're talking about, Poppet. ;^) .

Bonus Questions. For those Askville members who do not like them, what is it about them that you don't like?

I think the bonus questions are doing a lot of damage to the Askville community.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
