Why did I get a "Okay" rating on this OPINION question where a "Copy & Paste" answer from the web got a "GOOD"?

askville.amazon.com/food-schools-ideas-s... thought I shared some good ideas and provided a well thought out answer to the question. Proboly not the best presentation ever, but, still. My point is why does my personally typed answer to an opinion question only deserve a "okay" when there is another answer to this question (you can tell which one it is) that was just a copy and paste job from the web gets rated "good".

You know the old saying, its not what you know, its who you know well I myself have suffered this same issue on other blogs, I have come up with two different reasons, its one or the other but you will never really know, but it is one or the other thats for sure. YA it really don't matter how good your answer is if you don't have a friend, it can be the best but you will be out of luck if you don't know someone. The next reason, well sometimes people don't like to long of a answer, that may have been the case with yours, its just to much bull to read, sometimes you need to just make it short and simple, I mean ya I know there are alot of no lifers out here in askville but... there are also many that just have a certian amount of time to spend.

So at first glance they see your answer so long and drawen out they just give it an ok without really reading it. They go on to the next that is more simple and easy to read and straight to the point, try breaking down your answers deleting all the mumbo jumbo that really don't even matter. So you be the judge here on what you think, but remember its one or the other.

By the way your answer to me was a great one, luckily I had some time to read it.

I try to answer questions on Askville when I have time (or ask them) because it is fun to share. But I do not worry about how my responses are rated. Quest Coins are virtual and not really worth anything .

The people on this site are sort of virtual too . Not like anybody here really KNOWS you in real life or that you would somehow be embarrased to give a less than perfect answer. If you get caught up in being competitive Askville loses the fun qualities of people sharing their insights and knowledge.

People rate answers to questions just as randomly as they ask questions. I thought your answer was very good and showed a lot of thought had gone into it .

2 don't sweat it..... your answer was great! .

3 It might have something to do with the recommendations provided. A lot of times people are looking for text book answers not opinions. Who really knows though?

4 AkivaTheDog, regarding your answer "A couple ideas": I believe your answer was wonderfully informative. You deserved much more than an "Okay" rating. Considering your answer required a lot of thought, and wasn't a cut and paste answer.

" "Askville does not let me answer an old question. What is the deal?! " "After I answer a question, when do I receive my rating for the answer?

" "Is there a way that I can print just one answer from a question on askville? " "ASKVILLE...how exactly do you copy a question or answer 'link' into a discussion or PM for reference? " "I see this as an "unfair" rating of my answer to the question, "Do raccoons make good pets?

" What's your opinion?

Askville does not let me answer an old question. What is the deal?!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
